As noted on the Syllabus, homeworks are a chance for you to engage with the material and the process of learning as well as receive feedback. To this end, you will be evaluated on a mixture of self-assessment and reflection along with more traditional "grading" done by myself and the TAs.
- The general workflow will involve:
- submission of homework [75%]
- self-assessment and reflection [25%]
Self-assessment and reflection process:
- After the homework submission deadline has passed, I will post solutions to moodle.
- It is a violation of the honor code to look at the solutions before you've submitted your work or to share them with anyone.
- Within 3 days (homeworks are typically due Friday, so by Monday night), you must:
- Use the solutions to assess and reflect upon your submission. For each problem, you must
- Give yourself an assessment mark:
- ✘ if you did not complete it
- ✓- if you completed it, but were very far from the solution
- ✓ if you completed it and essentially had the solution
- ✓+ if you completed it correctly, including precise communication
- ? if you are unsure as to whether or not you completed it
- Provide a short reflection as to why you earned that mark, such as:
- "I was confused by the definition of ....", or
- "I incorrectly assumed that ...", etc.
- Ask specific questions to prompt instructor or TA feedback, such as:
- "Can you check if this is actually a counterexample?" or
- <circle a part of a proof you're unsure of> "I didn't know how to phrase this -- is what I wrote on track?"
- [Optional] Provide one hint for the problem (to your past self or future student).
