One thing that can help us to push through a challenging project is the ability to step outside of our own thinking and strategize about whether we have a good plan. That capacity to create a plan, try it out, see how it works before regrouping and try again is called self-regulated learning.
After the video, you’ll have a chance to reflect on connections to the circuit design project. As you watch, what resonates with you?
You'll have about 3-4 minutes to talk with your partner(s) about what resonated in the video.
Make sure one of you is ready report out to the class afterwards (for about a minute) by noticing either:
One theme you had in common, or
One difference.
Open this lab document, which we'll work through together. We will begin the lab today and continue working on it next class.
On your web site, create a new reflection entry. You may choose whether to use a written (1-3 paragraphs) or recorded (1-3 minute audio/video) format.
Reflect on the question "Am I up for the challenge?" as you consider the first day of the Circuit Playground lab experience. How do the topics we've discussed so far (mindset, self-efficacy, metacognition) play a role in your response? Use these prompts to guide your reflection (your reflection should touch on each of the bullet points):
When you first started the lab, did you feel like it was inside your comfort zone? Outside? Or did you feel neutral?
As you moved through the lab, did you find your confidence and comfort level shift?
What self-talk did you notice while interacting with the Circuit Playground Express microcontroller or while completing the lab?
