In First Grade, our focus is Pre-Primer (Quarter 1), Primer (Quarters 2 and 3), and First Grade (Quarter 4). Our goal is for students to quickly read these words, as these are high-frequency words found in early reading. Your child will be taking home flashcards during the school year to practice these important words!
In first grade, students do LOTS of reading! Students have opportunities to read to themselves, read to others, and listen to reading. Students are also in guided reading groups where students work with me in small groups. We also do many read-alouds as a class!
We write stories and work on our handwriting in First Grade. We write narratives, opinions, and informative writing, as well as respond to our reading with writing. Every Friday, we usually share our best writing from the week to celebrate!
