Science Department | College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics | Mindanao State University - General Santos
Jieward C. Casumpang, M.Sc., is a Biology instructor at Mindanao State University – General Santos, where he combines his passion for teaching with active research in the field of life sciences. He earned his Master of Science in Biology from the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) and his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Central Mindanao University (CMU). His graduate work explored the distribution of gastropods and their endoparasitic nematodes in selected plant nurseries and garden centers of General Santos and Polomolok, South Cotabato. He is currently a co-proponent of an internally funded research project that applies molecular techniques, specifically 16S rRNA gene sequencing to profile microbial communities in freshwater sediments.
With a strong interest in biodiversity, parasitology, and environmental microbiology, he engages in research that bridges field ecology and molecular biology. He has taken part in a wide range of scientific trainings, from eDNA-based monitoring to conservation writeshops, and often participates in biodiversity-focused events across the region. Passionate about science communication and collaborative research, he aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of ecological systems in southern Mindanao and beyond.
