I was scared of teaching crying babies before June, 2023. This is my first class with super young learners aged three. I've been teaching them since they were Bright Spart Level 2 (aged 3) to Bright Spart Level 3 (aged 4) for one year.
I'm more than surprised when they could master difficult prepositions that are beyond their cognitive development, speak out full sentences with perfect awareness of singulars and plurals, and are able to answer questions in the task-based assessment test conducted in Belgium.
Bright Spart Level 2 students aged 3 to 4
They kept speaking Chinese when they first joined us in March but they were able to produce in English with full sentences and understand my English instruction in June.
Every time when I asked "how many tails/ears/... does it have?" The little girl raised her fingers before speaking "one/two/three tails/eyes/...". That's adorable! I'm so proud of her!
This is my second time teaching students with autism. In this class, there are three special learners: one with autism, one with a developmental disorder, and one with bipolar disorder. I have been teaching them for a year and closely observing their progress. Despite starting with very limited English foundational skills, their progress continues to surprise me at times.
Classroom Moments: See Learning in Action
In this class, I need to teach six prepositions "behind, in, in front of, next to, on and under".
My strategy is to make learning fun with input-based tasks and capture their attention using a bell that lights up and beeps. To reduce the task difficulty, I chose not to include item flashcards.
In this session, I need to teach prepositions "behind, next to, in front of" and places "beach, cinema, farm, hospital, park, school, supermarket , restaurant".
My strategy is to make learning fun with input-based tasks, turning it into an amusement park-like game. I include location flashcards to test whether students have mastered both location and preposition vocabulary.
