This Possible Selves Program is designed to create a positive mindset towards languages and how languages can support the student's dreams of future livelihoods.
All students need support and encouragement to see the benefit of putting in the time to learn other languages. Students of difficult languages especially need a vision of what proficiency will be like 10 years down the road. Without this language vision, many might give up before real progress is seen.
Whether your program has multiple years or just a few semesters, language programs benefit when we develop a society of language learners and users. It is for the future roles of your students that you give them the power to see their possible selves as users of the languages they are learning.
Your students - Their futures - Your Program
Developing this program takes time as you research and discover more positive thinking modalities in the language you teach.
At KCAI this is implemented in the second semester, after which most students graduate or do not enroll further because of schedule conflicts.
Your goal is to encourage language learner development beyond your classroom, whether that is formally in a classroom, abroad, or self study.
