ThisIBelieve.org is a website dedicated to over 125,000 audio essays describing the core values that drive every day life. Each student spent time exploring a few essays of their choosing and then worked to create a personal essay following the same format. This student's recording was clear and engaging; it fulfilled all the assignment requirements and exceeded expectations. The goal of this assignment was to practice written and verbal communication skills as well as practicing self-reflection skills.
Students had the ability to choose the final project for the book club unit. In this case, the group choose to do a playlist that represented different elements of their book. The work is exceptional in presentation and analysis. The "album cover" is an original creation produced by one of the group members and the slides mimic a Spotify playlist. The goal of this assignment was to analyze elements of the text in a creative way while also demonstrating their understanding of the plot and characters.

While studying poetry, students were tasked with creating a variety of poems. At the end of the unit, students were required to develop a creative portfolio to showcase their work. This student decided to mimic the format of Netflix. This was one of the most creative and engaging poetry portfolios. The goal of this assignment was to demonstrate their understanding of different types of poems, challenge themselves creatively, and display their work proudly.
As a final assessment for The Great Gatsby, students constructed an essay on an theme or element of their choosing. This student focused on the setting with an emphasis on the female role. The essay was well-structed and contained excellent evidence and details that supported the thesis and main ideas. The goal of this assignment was to develop written communication skills as well as demonstrating their understanding of some of the elements of the text.
In American Literature, we take a couple of weeks to examine parodies and satire. Where as many students simply wrote lyrics to create a parody, this group went above and beyond by not only recording the dialogue but also creating all of the animation/art for their satirical sketch. The goal of this assignment was to demonstrate their understanding of parody or satirical pieces by creating their own.
