Welcome to my Master of Arts in Education (MAED) Showcase! This showcase focuses on activities that I believe have extended my learning and passion for education as well as representing my goals and teaching philosophy. The artifacts in this exhibit are reflective of my experience as an educator and as a student. I decided to organize this showcase into three categories. These categories represent my continued growth as an educator and my goals and focus for my current and future students.
Creativity & Technology: It is my focus to create unique and engaging lessons that implement technology. I believe this approach helps me focus on student strengths and to help build those essential skills.
Literacy & Literature: One of my main goals is to ignite and develop students' appreciation for literature as well as their skills as literacy learners. It is through literacy and literature that I hope to foster a lifelong desire to learn.
Reflection: It is important to exercise the ability to reflect and grow as this is a huge part of learning and developing. This is something I want to model and promote within my classroom.
This project helped to develop my approach to both lesson and unit design. In this video, I reflect on the testing phase of lesson planning. I choose this piece because, like teaching, it's a work in progress and it really challenged me to learn how to apply new technologies.
Test, reassess, and adjust. Then we repeat.
This video serves as a reminder to look at assignments, lessons, and units through the eyes of the users, better known as the students. I liked how this project challenged me to create video without editing. I had to get creative with filming in order to complete this challenge.
The ability to empathize is a skill that is worth cultivating.
This video blends creativity, technology, and literature. When creating this video, I had to learn how to use new programs. It helped to foster my creative side while advancing my technology-based skills and knowledge.
Creativity is in the eye of the beholder.
In a world where we can simply Google the answer, it is essential that we learn to analyze and problem solve. This project emphasizes literature analysis while also exploring the value of award winning books. Selecting a book to study requires research and attention. How valuable is an award winning book? Do these books reflect all students?
Text choice matters.
One of the biggest takeaways during my time in the master's program was how to look at things differently and break them down in a way that allowed me to think critically and creatively. New approaches allow for new lessons which allow me to reach more students.
Key components of growth are reflection and constructive feedback. This means the ability to provide it and also receive it. Many of my professors provided me with constructive feedback and the opportunity to share with my colleagues. This artifact represents reflection with a focus on feedback.
Creativity can flourish when given time, feedback, opportunity, encouragement, and perspective.
