GET READY FOR THIS YEAR'S BIOBLITZ!

Want to take an opportunity to explore the outdoors and get to know the plants, trees, and critters while contributing to local community science efforts? Join our July Bioblitz and Beyond* project! Thirteen organizations across the state are joining together to recruit volunteers to visit one of their properties, using iNaturalist to catalog various flora and fauna. We will offer an online orientation via webinar on Tuesday, June 29th from noon-1pm, where you get to know the basics of a bioblitz using iNaturalist, and have a chance to meet the bioblitz partners. Participation during the bioblitz is on your own, at your own pace, at any time throughout the month of July!

We will also offer three Thursday webinar lunch-ins through the month:

  • July 6 -- Things with Wings: Pollinating Insects

  • July 13 -- Blooming in July: Summer Plants and Wildflowers

  • July 20 -- Not Quite Plants: Fungi, Lichens, and Bryophytes

  • July 27 -- Wetland Wonders: Exploring Aquatic Ecosystems

All participants who complete a bioblitz inventory will receive a certificate of completion.

What is a Bioblitz?

A bioblitz is a community science-led tally of living things in a given area. Multiple conservation organizations across the state are hosting bioblitz collection sites on local properties. The species tallies are collected by taking and uploading pictures of what you have seen on the property into the designated project on the iNaturalist site. It's easy! All you need is an iNaturalist account, a camera and a wifi or cell connection in the field or at home for uploading!
