The Chocolay Bayou Nature Preserve protects 13 acres of wetland that acts as a stopover for migrating birds. It lies directly between two bustling, expanding communities.

The Vielmetti-Peters Conservation Reserve is a 123-acre working forest with nearly four miles of trails for you to explore, just on the edge of the City of Marquette.

Pierce Cedar Creek Institute is a nature center, environmental education center, and biological field station located on 849 acres with nine miles of hiking trails ten miles south of Hastings, Michigan. Visitors experience the beauty of a very diverse property including wetlands, forests, marshes, streams, lakes, and prairies. The hiking trails are open every day dawn to dusk.

MFA's mission is to inspire and empower people to sustainably manage, conserve and enjoy forests through education, advocacy and fellowship. The Association also owns forest parcels that are used to demonstrate forest conservation and management activities. MFA invites Bioblitz participants to visit their 40 acre property just west of Pellston, MI. It has a post-harvest mix of red pine, aspen, and sugar maple on the property.

(Located on the south side of Robinson Rd, approx. 2 miles west of Pellston)

Another MFA property, also in Emmet County, is located southwest of Levering, MI. This property was also selectively harvested to remove the dead and dying ash and beech trees. It still is a lovely 40 acre parcel with lots of sugar maple and basswood.

The Riverview Natural Area is a 419 acre property located along the Tittabawassee River in Midland County which has a 4 mile trail loop that traverses through mature woods, open fields and along the river.

The Lane property is 270 acres with three quarters of a mile of frontage on the North Branch of the Cedar River. The property includes important forestland habitat, open grasslands, and scenic views of the surrounding area.

The Veronica Valley Park property was formerly a family operated, nine hole golf course that has not been in use for about four years. The site is characterized by gently rolling hills, open space, wetlands, and forested wetlands that include dense stands of white cedar.

The Belle Isle Nature Center is located on Belle Isle State Park in the heart of Detroit on the Detroit River. Our property address is 176 Lakeside Drive, Detroit, 48207. The 987 acre park includes three lakes, 150 acres of wooded area and spectacular views of the Detroit and Windsor skyline.

The KBS Bird Sanctuary is a unique wildlife center located in Southwest Michigan offering conservation-focused public programs, interpretive tours, and accessible trails that allow close views of captive and wild birds. Journey a paved, ¾ mile accessible trail to Wintergreen Lake to see hundreds of waterfowl in their natural habitat, including Trumpeter Swans, Canada Geese and a variety of duck species. Other wonderful bird-centered features can be part of your experience!

Located 1/2 mile from Roscommon, the Marguerite Gahagan Nature Preserve was established to perpetuate Marguerite’s lifelong appreciation of the north woods. It is a 60 acre wildlife sanctuary, designed to provide environmental education for our communities.

The 384-acre Dowagiac Woods Nature Sanctuary is considered a “crown jewel” of MNA’s sanctuaries. A mixed matrix of floodplain, southern-mesic forest, and hardwood swamp allows for nearly 50 species of nesting birds and several reptiles, such as the black rat snake. Along with nesting birds like the barred owl and yellow-throated warbler, neo-tropical migrants use the river and forest habitat.

Located in Jackson County, the 208-acre Lefglen Nature Sanctuary has a variety of plant communities, including wooded uplands, oak barrens, cattail marsh, and prairie fen. 690 native plant species from 116 plant families have been found here.
