Showcase: My Journey in Educational Technology

Welcome to my Showcase! This page is a reflection of my experiences and learning throughout my Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program. Here, I’m sharing some of the key projects and assignments that helped me grow as an educator, particularly in using technology to enhance teaching, improve assessment practices, and explore different learning strategies. I’ve organized my work around two main themes: Innovative Assessment Practices and Theories and Strategies for Effective Learning. I hope this gives you a sense of how I’ve developed my skills and how I plan to use what I’ve learned in my future classroom.

Innovative Assessment Practices

Assessment is a critical part of teaching, and throughout the MAET program, I’ve learned how to make it more engaging and meaningful using technology. These assignments focus on different ways I’ve approached assessments, from creating them to reflecting on what works and what doesn’t.

Philosophy on Assessment
In this paper, I explore my personal philosophy on assessment. I talk about how I see assessment as a way to support and guide learning, rather than just measuring it. Technology, for me, is a key part of this, as it allows for more immediate feedback and more interactive forms of assessment that really connect with students. In this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to articulate a clear philosophy of assessment, integrate technology into assessment practices, and reflect critically on how assessment can support student learning.

My Best Assessment
This assignment showcases an assessment I created that I felt was particularly successful. I explain how I used digital tools to make the assessment more interactive and engaging for students, and how it truly helped them demonstrate their learning. In this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to design an effective assessment, incorporate digital tools to enhance student engagement, and analyze the impact of the assessment on student learning outcomes.

Learning from Mistakes: My Worst Assessment
In this piece, I reflect on an assessment that didn’t go quite as planned. I analyze why it fell short and what I learned from the experience. The beauty of this exercise was realizing how mistakes are part of the process, and how technology helped me revise and improve my assessments going forward. In this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to reflect on failures, analyze the factors behind assessment shortcomings, and use technology to revise and improve assessment strategies.

Creative Assessment
Here, I explore how to think outside the box when designing assessments. I created an interactive assessment using technology, like gamification, to engage students in a more hands-on and creative way. It was a great way to show how assessments can be more fun while still being educational. In this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to design innovative assessments, use gamification techniques to enhance student engagement, and balance creativity with educational goals.

Here, I walk through the process I use to create digital assessments, from start to finish. I explain how I design them to be aligned with learning objectives and how technology makes it easier to offer timely feedback. I also reflect on how digital tools have made the assessment process more accessible and efficient. Theories and Strategies for Effective Learning

A huge part of being a good teacher is understanding how students learn. The MAET program has helped me explore various learning theories and how they can be applied using technology in the classroom. These assignments focus on the ways learning theories can inform the use of technology and how it can be used to support diverse learning needs.

Theory of Learning
In this paper, I look at different learning theories (like constructivism, behaviorism, and social learning) and explain how they influence my teaching methods. I discuss how technology can support these theories in creating a more engaging, student-centered learning environment. In this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to analyze various learning theories, apply these theories to my teaching practice, and leverage technology to create a student-centered learning environment.

Literacy Learner Analysis Project

One Student: Differentiated Literacy Instruction
This assignment focuses on using technology to personalize learning. I developed a plan for differentiating literacy instruction for one student, using digital tools that would meet their specific learning needs. It’s a great example of how technology can be a powerful tool for differentiation in the classroom. In this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to differentiate instruction, personalize learning using technology, and address the specific needs of individual students.

Here, I reflect on the differences between formal learning in schools and informal learning that happens outside the classroom. I explore how technology can bridge the gap between the two and allow students to take charge of their learning, whether they’re in school or at home. In these artifacts, I demonstrate my ability to analyze the distinctions between formal and informal learning, explore the role of technology in bridging these learning environments, and promote student autonomy in both settings.

Closing Thoughts

This showcase represents the key learning experiences I’ve had throughout the MAET program, and I’m excited to continue building on these skills. Using technology to improve assessment, support diverse learning needs, and create engaging classroom experiences is something I’m passionate about. I’ve learned a lot, but I know there’s always more to explore and apply in my teaching. This showcase is just the beginning, and I look forward to the next steps in my journey as an educator.
