We are students who are getting endorsements in Teaching English as a Second Language who are hoping to create a positive classroom environment where our students feel comfortable despite their cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
In practice, translanguaging might involve using home languages alongside the target language in reading, writing, or discussion; co-constructing meaning with bilingual peers; or integrating multilingual resources like dictionaries, visuals, or culturally relevant texts. It is particularly effective in classrooms with English Language Learners (ELLs) as it validates their linguistic and cultural backgrounds while supporting their academic development.
