Fast Facts

When: The program is scheduled to run in Summer 2022. Students must complete online preparatory work prior to departure. Once in Europe, there is no "classroom" time. All learning takes place in museums, galleries, cafes, monuments, cemeteries, and beyond. We are abroad from approximately May 25 through June 15. Final assignments are due at the end of the term.

Where: We will spend three action-packed weeks in Europe, splitting our time between Italy and England. Housing is in shared (double occupancy) hotels (2 or 3 star) in Florence and in shared (double-occupancy) apartments in London.

Who: The course is open to all majors. Students must have completed Calculus I and a Tier-I Writing requirement (e.g. LB133).

How: Students arrange their own flights to Florence and home from London, but there is a "recommended flight" that you can book through the MSU Travel Agency. All transportation within Europe (including flights, trains, buses, and ferries) is included in the program cost.

What: This study abroad course fulfills the requirements for LB492 Senior Seminar, LB 323A Science in a Global Context, MTH 490 Directed Studies, and/or LB 494 Undergraduate Research. As such, it is a highly individualized experience, in which you will make deep connections between mathematics, the sciences, and the humanities. Students can tailor the content of the course to be as mathematically "rigorous" (or not!) as they desire. (See the "Hub-and-Spokes" subpage).
