This page offers a glimpse into my classroom. I value creating a positive, collaborative environment where students feel welcomed. Learning is made engaging through hands-on activities, meaningful discussions, and building strong relationships. I have carefully planned the spaces in my classroom to promote the best opportunity for student learning and engagement. This page is separated into three categories: Classroom Management, Social-Emotional Learning, and Academics to showcase my classroom.
I use a voice level chart in my classroom. This gives students a clear expectation of how they should be using their voice in different settings at school.
Here are my four guiding principles for my class: I will be caring, responsible, safe and respectful. These are simple and direct, but give students clear expectations for their behavior.
Also featured is my Wow Wall. This is part of my individual classroom management. Students get to put their names on the wall for making positive choices and following classrooom expectations. There is a prize drawing when the whole chart is filled with names.
This is my class reward jar. I use it as a whole-class reward incentive. Students can earn a "smiley" when they are following expectations exceptionally well. We brainstorm new rewards and vote on them after we fill our jar.
This is my classroom library. It is also the storage area for my flexible seating options that allow students the chance to get out of their standard desk chair throughout the day. I provide a variety of texts with different levels and genres that students. My goal of this place is to create an inviting area that encourages students explore different texts and foster a love of reading.
This is the sound wall that is featured in my classroom. This is used in conjunction with our phonics program, UFLI Foundations. Students are able to use it as a literature resource as needed. The consonants are organized by sound types.
I keep a schedule of our daily activities that is easily visible for students. I follow a consistent routine that allows students to know what to expect each day.
Our school uses the Leader in Me program, which focuses on teaching students life skills focusing on how to be better leaders. I have Stephen Covey's 7 Habits for Highly Effective People showcased in my classroom so I can refer to them frequently. These habits are the foundation for the Leader in Me program.
I believe in fostering a growth mindset in my students. I have this display to encourage students to reframe their thinking to be more positive and optimistic.
Here is my classroom's Pause Place, serving the purpose of being a safe place students can go to when they are feeling dysregulated. When students are feeling a big emotion, they are encouraged to pause then notice, name, and think about what they're feeling and how they can cope with their emotions. We practice calming strategies such as breathing, using your senses, taking a break, and connecting. Each drawer has tools that can help students use one of these strategies.
