My name is Darby Hayse. I am a 2nd grade teacher at Lemmer Elementary in Escanaba, MI. Currently, I am enrolled in Michigan State's Master of the Arts in Education (MAED) program. As a teacher, I aim to provide an equitable learning experiences for all students that values their unique backgrounds and experiences. The MAED program has allowed me to further expand my studies on the best practices in education and directly apply those practices in my classroom. Throughout my portfolio, you will find more detailed information on my course studies, what I have learned, and how I have grown as a learner and leader in the classroom.
I was born and raised a Yooper, growing up in Escanaba, MI. After graduating from Escanaba High School, I attended Michigan State University to attain my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a teaching minor in mathematics. Upon graduating college, I moved back home to the UP and started my first teaching job. Shortly after that, I met my husband. Here we are five years later, working our way through life together- building our careers, getting married, buying a house, and adopting two Dorkies (Dachshund-Yorkies) from our local animal shelter.
When I am not busy teaching or working on my master's, you can find me exploring one of my hobbies. I love hanging out with my loved ones: my husband, Dorks (Scruffy and Muffy), friends, and family. I enjoy being outdoors, especially during the summer. My favorite place is my family cottage on Big Bay de Noc in Stonington, MI. I enjoy staying active by going on walks and playing pickleball and golf. Some of my other hobbies include cooking, traveling, board games, and building Lego sets.
