Welcome to our unit on Victor LaValle's novella The Ballad of Black Tom. I teach the novella in my sophomore English class as part of a larger focus on monsters and people behaving monstrously. While I have not used new media texts and tools to modify the text itself, I have created three dynamic lessons that support students' understanding of the text and its related issues.
