Disguises & Starter Pack Memes

Tommy Tester disguises himself in order to survive outside his Harlem neighborhood. His disguises include physical objects as well as specific behaviors. We're going to create starter pack memes to explore how exactly Tommy uses disguises to adapt to the environment in which he finds himself.

Instructions

Working with your groupmates, you are now going to create three starter pack memes. You may use whatever digital illustration technology you prefer, though I think Google Drawings is pretty easy. Watch the screencast below for a quick tutorial on using Google Drawings for your memes

Each meme must represent a different disguise Tommy Tester uses in the novella. Remember that he utilizes the following disguises:

  1. Black Jazz Man
  2. Compliant Black Man
  3. Clueless Negro

Each meme must also include:

  1. 3-4 fashion articles, multimedia, and other consumer products associated with the disguise
  2. A quote from the text that shows Tommy utilizing the disguise

When you're done:

  1. Post your meme to our class Google doc
  2. Complete the analysis for each meme
