The Project

The Safe Neighborhoods Project brings dynamic community planning and engagement to city residents around the topic of personal safety and good environmental design that hinders criminal activity.

In 2019-20, City Hall and Michigan State University are partnering on public engagement surveys and photovoice, overlapped with crime data findings and new design strategies to address crime.

The Safe Neighborhoods Project kicked off in late 2019 with a public workshop!

Attendees learned about CPTED and placemaking and worked with city maps to identify crime hotspots and areas that could become great places.
