• Dr. Liao gave a group of attendees from the Conservation Drainage Network Annual Meeting a tour of the new MSU dairy innovation center and MSU South Campus Anaerobic Digester (SCAD).  

• Meicai Xu's paper "Artificial intelligence for anaerobic digestion: advancing sustainable biogas production " has been published at Journal of Energy Advances. Congratulations to him and the group !!!

• Dr. Barry Bradford and Dr. Liao hosted a tour of the new MSU dairy innovation center for a delegation from Chobani LLC.

• Dr. Liao hosted a tour of the new MSU Dairy Innovation Center, ADREC, and SCAD for a group of students from National Chung Hsing University, ROC. 

• Dr. Liao received the MSU Innovation Center's Corporate Connector Award.  

• A press about Dr. Liao and MSU ADREC on turning waste into working solutions was published online. 

• Dr. Liao hosted a tour of the new MSU Dairy Innovation Center for a delegation from Fairlife LLC. 

• Dr. Liao gave a group of students from BE484 Wastewater Recovery Engineering a tour of the new MSU Dairy Innovation Center and MSU South Campus Anaerobic Digesters (SCAD).

• Dr. Liao gave a delegation from Mill Industries Inc. a tour of the MSU Anaerobic Digestion Research and Education Center (ADREC). 

• Dr. Liao received the Ralph H. Smuckler Award for advancing international studies adn programs at MSU.

• Meicai Xu's paper "Understanding the influence of inoculum pre-conditioning on microbial community dynamics during biochemical methane potential tests" has been published at Journal of Biomass and Bioenergy. Congratulations to him and the group !!! 

March 2026

• Dr. Liao attended the International Conference on Bioenergy & Biofuels 2026, Boston, MA (March 23-25, 2026), and gave a virtual talk entitled ''Renewable energy and animal agriculture in the U.S." at the conference. 

• Dr. Liao hosted a tour of the new MSU Dairy Innovation Center and South Campus Anaerobic Digesters (SCAD) for a group of students and research scholars from the University of Michigan. 

• Drs. Sibel Uludag-Demirer and Wei Liao gave a student group from Wilson Talent Center a tour of the MSU Anaerobic Digestion Research and Education Center (ADREC) and South Campus Anaerobic Digesters (SCAD).  

February 2026

• Dr. Liao gave a Kazakhstan delegation a tour of the new MSU dairy innovation center and MSU south campus anaerobic digesters (SCAD).

• Dr. Liao interviewed with Brownfield Ag News to talk about the impact of the USDA funding pause on anaerobic digestion projects in the U.S.

• Dr. Barry Bradford and Dr. Liao hosted a tour of the new MSU dairy innovation center for a delegation from Target Co.

Dr. Francesca Valenti's paper "Exploring a food-energy-water nexus solution towards a sustainable and resilient Europe" has been published at Journal of Resources, Conservation and Recycling. Congratulations to her and the entire author team !!!

September 2025

• Annaliese Marks's paper "High-efficiency carbon dioxide capture using macroporous hydrogel infused with microalgal infused with microalgal amino acid salt solution" has been published at Journal of Fuel. Congratulations to her and the group !!!

• Dr. Liao gave a seminar at Utah State University, and visited Dr. Luguang Wang's research group.  

• Dr. Liao attended the 30th annual conference of Institute of Biological Engineering (IBE) and gave a talk there. 

• Dr. Liao gave a webinar entitled "Securing agriculture in a changing climate - FEW nexus solutions for global sustainability" at University of Maryland's Global FEWture Alliance.

August 2025

• Dr. Liao attended the annual meeting of Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB) and gave a presentation there.

July 2025

• Dr. Uludag-Demirer and the ADREC team worked with the American Biogas Council team to run the ABC operator school at MSU.

• The ADREC team (Carter Monson, Emilia Emerson, Dr. Liao) attended the 2025 annual ASABE meeting at Toronto, Canada.  

June 2025

• Dr. Liao visited the University of Bologna, Italy to give several lectures, visit renewable energy facilities, and develop research proposals. 

May 2025

• Dr. Liao visited Dr. Truong Thanh Trung's research group at Can Tho University, Vietnam and gave a seminar there. 

• Dr. Liao and Dr. Smith testified in front of the Michigan House Agriculture Committee about transforming waste into a public asset: Michigan State University leads next-generation anaerobic digestion innovation (the recorded hearing). 

• The ADREC team demonstrated the mobile digester unit for EV charging at the West Michigan Food Processing Association (WMFPA) spring meeting at Hart, Michigan.
