Reading  and Reading Response Information: 

Students are required to read Monday -Thursday as well as one night on the weekend (Fri., Sat. or Sun.)  I will be checking for completion of reading homework through the use of "Status of the Class."  This is where I will confer with each student briefly to ask what page they are on currently  in their book.  The student will be required to state a brief summary of their recent reading with an "I am at the part where..." statement.  A reading response will be assigned at times and a rubric will be provided. 

What is the 40 Book Challenge?

Each student in my class has been challenged to read 40 books this year!  This is an effort to encourage students to finish as many books as they can in different genres and to foster a love for reading.  I am doing this challenge too, because even adults can get comfortable reading one type of genre. 

Parents, here are some tips to help your child rise to the challenge:

• Talk with your child about the books they read

• Have your child read aloud to you or to a sibling

• Take them to the public library

• Encourage your child to start a book club with friends
