Severn School promotes this welcoming environment throughout the entire school. You can tell right away that students feel like they belong and are apart of a caring community.
Mary Ellen was such a pleasure to visit. Her classroom is a safe place where students feel free to explore new art mediums while flexing their creative minds. Mary Ellen is not only an art teacher but also an active artist. She blogs about her own work and gives students access so that they can see her art progression. She also has students create their own blogs so that they document their own growth. She introduced us to Miro and Weebly. Miro is a great site where students can share their research with one another and Weebly is where she has students create their digital portfolios. Nikita and I plan to take everything we learned from her and make our own classrooms better.

Mary Ellen used funny signs to help students navigate all the different tools in the room. They were catchy easy to read.

I would like to add something like this above my classroom door.
I have requested more information on this speaker because I feel this could be really beneficial for the students in the Mehlville School District to hear.
