Mehlville High School

Social Studies Department

Bio

This page is to give parents an idea of who I am and what we do in our Social Studies classes.  I have been teaching at Mehlville High School since 2005. Both of my parents went to MHS and I have two kids who also attend school within the district so I am very much rooted and invested in our community.

Outside of my career as a teacher, my job as a parent, and my role as a husband, I am an avid cave explorer and cartographer.  For several years now I have been the president of the Missouri Speleological Survey, a volunteer organization which documents the caves and cave resources of Missouri. In addition I also work with the Cave Research Foundation which, provides cave management services to federal, state and local agencies in Missouri.  I have been able to integrate my work in caves and my job at MHS by taking students to Cliff Cave in Oakville each year to work on a graffiti removal project.

Throughout my career at MHS, I have taught numerous Social Studies classes.  I have a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education with a certification in Social Sciences, a Masters Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Education Administration.  In addition, I am a former Lemay Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year and was named the 2023 Missouri Council of the Social Studies Teacher of the Year for high school.  I am also the sponsor for the MHS International Club; a club which celebrates cultural diversity and promotes cultural awareness, as well as a former swim coach for MHS and am one of the teachers in the Flex program.

It is honestly a privilege to get to work with the young people in our community.  This job brings a smile to my face daily and I hope that my classes will have that same effect on the students who are in it.  I am a lifelong learner who still works regularly to improve my skills as a teacher.  The best part of my job is to  both challenge and help the young people of our community grow.

Please contact me anytime you have questions or concerns.
