Paying Attention
Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to demonstrate they know ways to pay attention.
Students will be able to recognize mistakes are a part of learning by encouraging themselves and others when they make a mistake.
Students will be able to name two ways they can get better at something: practice and keep trying.
The Zones of Regulation
Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to identify different feelings.
Students will understand that feelings come from inside our body and give us information.
Students will be able to sort feelings into the four color zones: Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue.
Students will understand that some feelings are comfortable feelings to have and some are uncomfortable feelings, but all feelings are important.
Students will be able to give at least one reason why they think someone is feeling sad.
Students will be able to give at least one reason why they think someone is feeling mad or frustrated.
Students will learn how to BELLY BREATHE to calm down the uncomfortable feelings.
Students will understand that we don't all feel the same in the same situation. Our friends might have different feelings then we have.
Students will define PERSONAL SPACE.
Students will practice making others feel comfortable by giving them some personal space.
Students will discuss how others' words make us feel. Kind words make us happy and mean words make us sad or mad.
Students will understand that we all hurt other people's feelings on accident or on purpose sometimes.
Students will practice apologizing when they hurt someone's feelings.
Students will define DISAPPOINTMENT.
Students will learn that sometimes you are not going to get what you want and it is ok to tell yourself "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit."
Students will define WORRY.
Students will understand that feeling scared can help us stay safe in some situations, but can be very unhelpful in others.
Students will practice strategies to calm our worried or scared feelings.
Students will be introduced to the idea that our feeling reaction should match the size of the problem.
Kindness
Learning Objectives:
Students will define KINDNESS.
Students will define SELFISH.
Students will be able to give at least one example of a kind act.
Students will be able to give at least one example of a behavior that would be selfish.
Students will be able to identify a kind act from a selfish act.
Students will discuss whether or not it is kind to help someone when they don't need or want help.
Students will understand what to do and say if someone gives them a gift.
Students will understand that their words can be a great gift to others.
Students will identify words and phrases that are kind from words and phrases that are not kind.
Learning Objectives:
Students will identify ways to keep their body healthy.
Students will understand that having a healthy body and mind helps them feel happy.
Students will discuss how SLEEP helps keep their body and mind healthy.
Students will define BE TIME or time that we just slow down and do unstructured time to help our mind settle all the business.
Students will practice two strategies to slow their body down: calm breathing and the butterfly stretching.
