I am so excited to begin my role of librarian at the Mascoutah Middle School. As a Mascoutah graduate, it feels great to be back and to give students the same wonderful library experience I had growing up in the Mascoutah District. I also cannot wait to share my love of books and reading with the students at Mascoutah Middle School!
Fun Facts About Mrs. Crothers
My husband and I welcomed our first baby in May of 2022.
I graduated from SIUE with my Bachelors in History and minor in Political Science in 2015.
In 2021, I graduated from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with my Masters in Library and Information Science.
I am currently attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign online to earn additional credits towards my school librarian licensure.
I have two guinea pigs and a cat at home.
During the height of COVID, I got really into plants and have my own mini jungle at home. Some of that jungle has come to the library.
I love all things planners, notebooks, and nice pens.
My favorite books include A Series of Unfortunate Events, the Harry Potter series, Alas Babylon, and the Eragon series.
ABOUT OUR COLLECTION
In order to support the curriculum and provide for individual research and enrichment, our library collection encompasses a wide variety of resources. Our inventory includes approximately 9,000 print volumes (fiction, non-fiction, and reference), 30 periodical titles (magazines and newspapers), nearly 1,000 audiovisual items (videotapes, DVDs, audiotapes), internet access, and eleven electronic resource databases. Digital magazines, newspapers, and e-books are available for students use via their Chromebook. All library digital resources are available remotely with a username and password for home access. Please see the Remote Access attachment for those usernames and passwords.
Circulation and Overdue Policy
Regular library books (fiction and nonfiction) may be checked out for three weeks and may be renewed for an additional three weeks, provided these books have not been requested for use by another student or teacher.
Current magazines and newspapers are available in digital form, to be accessed via the students' Chromebooks.
There are no fines charged for overdue books.
Students must reimburse the library for the cost of any lost or damaged materials or provide a replacement copy. Replacement copies may be new or gently used. Individual overdue notices will be sent to students via classroom teachers.
Failure to receive an overdue notice does not excuse the student from returning books.
All library materials are due approximately 2 weeks before the last day of school. If students have outstanding library items, they may not be eligible for end-of-year celebrations such as field day and the 8th grade field trip.
MASCOUTAH MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARY & MEDIA CENTER PHILOSOPHY
The mission of the Mascoutah CUSD # 19 school library program follows the guidelines as specified in Linking for Learning: The Illinois School Library Media Program Guidelines(2005), as articulated below.
The mission of the school library program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished:
by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats;
by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas;
by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.
Additionally the Mascoutah CUSD #19 libraries believe that unrestricted access to a comprehensive collection of appropriate materials and the availability of online information is necessary for curriculum enrichment and for the promotion of lifelong learning. The library media program is designed to support the philosophy and goals of the school district.
