Monday to Friday June 1 - 5, 2020

Welcome to June!! And a FROSTY one at that!

Today laptops are supposed be passed back into school at various points around the district. You should have received a letter for the different locations where that is all happening. They need them back so they can go through them and do any servicing they can before the warraties expire on these machines. It's hard to give them up but they really do need them to get the work done.

For math activities this week I enclosed some activities games in your packet you can do with your family and/or circle of people you hang with. There's one on seeing where Pi comes from and how close you can get to it and some card games with integers - and yes, they're more fun than you want to believe.

It's a chilly but beautiful day - don't let it get away from you!!

Friday May 29, 2020

Hey hey hey - it's Friday!! How did you make out with the Cube Challenge from yesterday - some of them are tricky! Has anybody cut out the shapes I sent home and made them into 3D objects? Maybe even given them some color and designs? Get creative! Send me some pictures!

Hope you have been enjoying our warm weather!

--Mr. Boz

Thursday May 28, 2020

Here's a little challenge to try - you're given lots of nets that could be cubes BUT not all of them can be cubes. Use your sleuthing power to find out which ones can! Cube Challenge

In our math packet there were four objects to find the surface area of. If you watched my video you also saw that you can cut them out and make the 'nets' into 3D objects. Give it a try!!

--Mr. Boz

Wednesday May 27, 2020

It's a Math Zoom day!!! Gonna combine 7th and 8th grade today at 10:30 am - we're all working on the same stuff! Got a couple of Kahoots and for the second one I suggest having a calculator and a little scrap paper to jot things down on. See my Google Classroom for the links and details!

--Mr. Boz

Tuesday May 26, 2020

Hope you enjoyed having an extra day off yesterday! For me it was a busy weekend milking cows, mowing lawns, and starting to get our little garden going. Still more to do but at least it's started!

This is our last week with laptops so we have our last Zoom meetings this week. Both grades have the same assignments so I'll combine our Wednesday Zoom for a 10:30 session. We're all working on surface area. Please take a look at the video on the grade level pages to get started and see about cutting out the shapes and folding them into 3D objects.

I will post Zoom details tomorrow - happy Tuesday all!!

--Mr. Boz

Friday May 22, 2020

And Friday it is again! It's gonna be hot one and then it's off to our Memorial Day Weekend. No school Monday! Saturday I'll spend most of the day at the farm working and then a good part of the rest of the weekend will be yard work. There is soooooo much to do!

Today is the day we take attendance for contact so if you haven't had contact with one of send us an email or respond to us in Google Classroom so we can count you active.

I hope you all enjoy the weekend with your families!

--Mr. Boz

Thursday May 21, 2020

Yesterday in our Zoom Sessions we worked on shooting lasers at targets and strategically tilting mirrors to get the targets not in a straight line! Lasers you say?! Well, they were virtual lasers but good challenges with angles. If you weren't with us try this activity in place of Khan Academy today. Some of those that joined us created some challenges to try at the end of the activity. Some are pretty tricky!

Laser Challenge Desmos Activity

Have yourself a MARVELOUS day!!

Wednesday May 20, 2020

Wednesday's a Math Zoom Day!

  • 10:00 7th Grade

  • 11:00 8th Grade

See Google Classroom for the link and details!

How many of you have been getting a garden ready? The weather has been perfect for it!! I haven't had a lot of time for that but hopefully this weekend I can get it started - that and mow the lawn!! (Tho the kayak is calling my name too!)

Hope to see on Zoom! And if not leave me a note hear to let me know how you're doing with this warm weather!

--Mr. Boz

Tuesday May 19, 2020

Hello everyone!! Looks like summer is here! Did you get out and soak up some sun yesterday? Anybody been swimming yet? I'm looking to get out on the kayaks and paddleboard as soon as this foot heals up! Memorial Day is coming right up!

7th graders - we're contining on with working with proportions this week and 8th graders with scatterplots. Check out those videos posted on the pages under your grade level to help you out.

Tomorrow we'll have Zooms in the morning to review a few things in the homework and an activity too.

  • 11:00 8th grade

Hope you're all doing well!

--Mr. Boz

Monday May 18, 2020

Maybe this day is not

One of your favorites but

Never forget that every

Day you wake up is an

Amazing gift and it's up to you

You to make it count.

Welcome back everyone - it's a Monday! Let's kick it off hard! I know some people have had a hard time setting up a routine so here are a couple of ideas:

  • set aside 30 minutes each day for each different class

  • focus on just one class each day

Very often the hardest part is getting started. If you set a timer for 10 minutes to work through you'll often find that you can go much longer once you start.

Try to incorporate something that you like to do as well whether it be going outside for some movement and fun or exploring something new.

You can do it!!

--Mr. Boz

Friday May 15, 2020

It's Friday once again!! If we haven't heard from you then today is the day to contact us! We will take attendance later today tracking who we have and haven't heard from this week. All you need to do is email one of us and tell us about something you did this week or a question that you have.

Otherwise today is a catch up day! Look back throughout the week and see if something needs to be finished up.

Then you're off for the weekend! Hooray!!

Missing seeing all those faces in the classroom!

--Mr. Boz

Thursday May 14, 2020

It's a Khan Academy day! 7th graders go into the 7th grade course and 8th graders into the pre-algebra course to explore.

If you haven't made contact with any of we Somerset teachers please send us an email to let us know how things are going and any questions that you may have. At the end of the week we need to send an account of who we have and have not been in contact with to the administration.

Contact can be an email, attending a Zoom meeting, or an interaction in Google Classroom.

Let's get the day started folks - make it a good one!

-Mr. Boz

Wednesday May 13, 2020

It's Wednesday so that means it's a Math Zoom day!

  • 7th Grade 10:00

  • 8th Grade 11:00

  • Enrichment For All 1:00

Have those packets handy!

Look into our Google Classroom for links!

--Mr. Boz

Tuesday May 12, 2020

What a beautiful day yesterday was! I hope you got out for a little sunshine. I got outside and pushed the kids on the swings but with this foot didn't do anything too physically demanding. It is getting better, slowly. It will take some time.

I encourage you to take a little time and reach out to at least one of us and let us know how things are going. Things that are worth celebrating or struggles that you're having. Life has it's ups and downs - it's all part of this voyage called life. How we take on the good times and bad will shape us into the people we become and we want to be a part of that if you'll let us.

So drop us a few lines - we DO want to HEAR from YOU!

--Mr. Boz

Monday May 11, 2020

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! It was a bit brisk with that wind whipping about and the bit of snow that covered the ground on Saturday is now gone. I have some cousins who live in Alaska and it was warmer there this weekend than it was here! Something wrong with that picture!

I had the privilege to visit the ER Saturday night. I went with swelling, redness, and pain in my right foot with the fear it was infected. Interesting visit - I never got out of my car! They sent out a wonderful nurse to assess me then sent out a nurse practioner to diagnose me. Sure enough, infected! So I'm on antibiotics and hobbling around but should feel better soon!

Any stories like that from your neck of the woods? If so please send them on to me - I'd like to know what's going on with you. The good and the, ouch, not so good as in my case.

Today should bring a whole new set of packets! I have made videos for each math worksheet in the packet. Just check ou the tab with your grade above. They should definitely help you out! (And I stayed at school till midnight one night uploading them because our service out here in the boondox is good, but not that good! Please make my time worthwhile!)

Math Zoom meetings will be on Wednesday.

Drop me a line with a question, a bit about your weekend, or just to say hello!

Friday May 8, 2020

It's Friday once again! Are the weeks flying by for you or are they dreadfully slow?

It looks to be a nice day, a lot like yesterday in fact. Try to get outdoors for a little while, they're calling for a little snow on Saturday. Hopefully it'll just be some flurries!

Friday is a catch-up day! Take a look at the activities we had this week and work on anything that didn't get completed. Contribute to our Padlet - I'd love to see responses from everybody!

Please make contact with one of we teachers - our goal is a minimum of once a week and we're keeping track.

Be well all as you enjoy the weekend - know that you are missed!

--Mr. Boz

Thursday May 7, 2020

It was nice to see some of you yesterday in our Zoom meetings! Thank you for showing up!!

I see only a handful have contributed to our Padlet on Symmetry in Architecture. Please take a look at that on your grade level pages for details (see links at top) and add to the buildings there already.

Thursdays are set aside to work on some Khan Academy - no new worksheets today!

If you haven't contacted any of us Somerset teachers please do so. Shoot us an email and let us know how you're doing. If you don't you may be hearing from one of us! We're aiming to have some sort of contact at some point during the week.

Drop me an email!

It's May the 4th - you know what day this is?! May the 4th, May THE forth...MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!! It's a day Star Wars fans celebrate the whole Star Ways journey to if you have any Star Wars shirts or outfits WEAR THEM!!

Let's do a Flipgrid this week on our favorite Star Wars character(s), yes you can have more than one! You can wear your Star Wars t-shirts or outfits (I have a jedi costume) and you can tell us about those favorite characters, creatures, droids, ships, gear, gizmos, galaxies...whatever it is you enjoy most about Star Wars.

I also have a Padlet set up on your grade level pages on Symmetry in Architecture. Please go there to post an image of a building or bridge somewhere in our world that represents symmetry. I have posted one there already.

Friday May 1, 2020

Holy cow - it's May 1st today! Spring has definitely hit. Have you heard the frogs peeping where you live? Looks like a rainy day so maybe a good day to tie up some loose ends before the weekend.

Top priority today is to take the survey form about how you're doing that I sent out yesterday. I really do want to know how things are going for you! The link is in Google Classroom and hopefully emailed to you. I'll put it under the grade level assignment pages here on the site too.

Next - go ahead and work on any other assignments from the week. I would like to see more participate in our Flipgrid challenge this week - please go check that out! The code for that is also in your feed in Google Classroom.

There is a Quizizz as well from Thursday.

And then the regular worksheets with the videos I worked hard to create to help you out. I hope you're using those!

Plenty to do on this rainy day!!

Any questions email me, or even if it's just to say hello! sbosworth@msad54.org

Hope to see you today!

Tuesday April 28, 2020

Hello everyone! I hope everyone got their packets yesterday! If not, I have our worksheets embedded here with each assignment. You can pop it out to see it in it's entirety. You can also download it as a PDF and use the tools in Preview to mark it up. That would be most useful for you 8th graders with the worksheets with graphing equations and inequalities. Either way, use scrap paper to help work out the problems. No paper? Got any paper bags? Do your parents have junk mail that was just printed on one side? There might be some around and don't even realize it!

Yesterday I put up a Flipgrid for people to participate in over the week. Look in Google Classroom for the link. Once you post check back in throughout the week and listen to other people's responses. It will be interesting to see what different people see and come up with for solutions.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, will be our Zoom sessions. Links will be in Google Classroom.

  • 10:00 7th Grade Math Help

  • 11:00 8th Grade Math Help

  • 1:00 All welcome for a math activity in Desmos creating a funny face with equations of circles (and a few other elements!

Please email me and let me know how you're doing!

Friday April 17, 2020

Hi All!!!

A breezy but sunny day out there! Try to get outside for some fresh air and a bit of exercise at some point!

Today is a day to catch up with anything you didn't finish during the week. 8th graders have an Desmos art project there but I think I'll keep that for after vacation and offer it up as an afternoon session for both 7th and 8th graders. It's the Funny Face project on the 8th grade page. You're free to start it and see what happens tho!!

Next week is vacation so we won't be posting new work or activities until Monday April 27th. Take time to unplug, get outside, and get some of those other things done you haven't gotten around to yet. I know, here, we need to do some spring cleaning, yard work, and figure out how to get a new washing machine - ours is in bad shape!

Be well all!

-Mr. Boz

Thursday April 16, 2020

Watch Thursday for the invites!!!

In a normal year today would be known as Tax Day. It's the day that all people's income tax returns normally need to be completed and paid if they still owe taxes. For those that have paid too much in income tax, they get a return, or money back! This year deadlines have been pushed until later with so much going on and so many people out of work.

This morning I have a full faculty morning at 10:30. That landed right in the middle of both Math Help Zoom sessions.

I will schedule some Zoom sessions for Thursday to see if we can get some in this week.

Until then, if you are having trouble with homework send me an email and I can help you sooner. I'll also set up a Math Question of the Day with Kahoots Zoom session. I've got other ideas too.

Drop me a line folks at my email sbosworth@msad54.org!

-Mr. Boz

Tuesday April 14, 2020

Hey the sun is out again!! The wind has picked up so maybe some of all that rain we got will start to dry up! How are you doing this mud season. Maine's 5th season you know - got to love it!

Todays acticivites and worksheets are posted on your grade level pages (links above). Please check out the videos I have put together. You will find I do some of the homework with you if you follow along!

Looks like meetings all morning for me today and another tomorrow morning. Makes it hard to schedule Zoom meetings but don't despair - we will have some!

Hope to see you soon!

-Mr. Boz

Monday April 13, 2020

Last week we had an activity Zoom meeting where we worked out and grooved to some African Dance moves. Sorry if you missed it. Thank you Brayden and Xavier in being good sports and getting some good excercise to boot!!

Stay tuned folks!!

--Mr. Boz

Friday April 10, 2020

Snow storm!! Power outage!! No Internet!!!!!!!!!!

Phew - it's been a tough morning already! Good luck!!

Thursday April 9, 2020

Hi all! We're doing to experiment by doing a physical activity through Zoom today!

Today's activity will introduce us to some movement with African dance. We have 3 short videos we'll be following. Self conscious? It's just for fun, to get moving when we're all cooped up with no place to go. Come give it a try! You will want a little bit of room to move around - and wear comfy clothes you can move in!

Time: Thursday Apr 9, 2020, 1:00 PM

Please see Google Classroom for Zoom link and password.

As for Math today, today will be a Khan Academy day. Say about 30 minutes worth. 7th graders work in the 7th grade course and 8th graders work in the Pre-Algebra course. Take time to watch the videos to help you understand what is being presented to you. You CAN do it!!

--Mr. Boz

Tuesday April 7, 2020

Hello everyone! Yesterday I took some time to develop some video lessons to help out with this weeks activities. Most days will start out with some sort of online activity followed by a worksheet supported by the videos I have made. Please use the videos!!

This is time to invest in yourselves to help fill the gap that we are experiencing because of the crisis the coronavirus has put us in. Participate in all your classes to keep yourself up to date as much as possible. Please request help by email and we'll figure something out. Watch for upcoming Zoom sessions for help with classwork, problem solving, and maybe even some goofy fun. You gotta take part to be a part!!

Please refer to the 7th grade or 8th grade tabs above for your assignments. If you need the packet go to Google Classroom. I posted it there yesterday morning. Use scrap paper if you can't manage a hard copy of the handout. We can be resourceful and move ahead!

On we go!!

--Mr. Boz

April 6, 2020

Good Day Everyone!!!

You should receive new packets this morning. Hopefully the ones I put together are included.

New material is posted under the tabs 7th Grade and 8th Grade. Please go there and select this week's subpage. For each grade there is a Quizizz today and homework activity with videos to get you started made by me. Hope these help get things rolling for you all!

A congratulations to Brayden Bellerose for being our Khan Academy King of the week. I'll be getting that avatar ready this morning!

Stay posted for Zoom meetings later this week for homework help and more problems of the day!

--Mr. Boz

Friday April 3, 2020

TGIF - Thank goodnes it's Friday! I think doing school from home is harder than doing school at school!

It was GREAT seeing some of your faces and hearing some of your voices yesterday! That was my first try at hosting a Zoom meeting. There WILL be many more. I'd like to set up more Math Questions of the Day for those of you who like that sort of challenge. I also will put out some times where we can work on homework as well.

Today ends our first two weeks of school from home, or what we are calling Round 1. Monday will start Round 2. You should get new packets on Monday with the food drops. Those math papers in the packet WILL be the ones we use for work during the next two weeks. Tune in here to see updates, videos, and related online activities for each day.

So for today I've copied this from the Distance Learning Page:

  • First: Comparing Prices in Brain POP Watch the video, take the Review Quiz and email me your results. Username is sams, password is mlti.

  • Then: Continue on working on any worksheets that you haven't finished or work in Khan Academy.

Have a wonderful day everyone!!

--Mr. Boz

Thursday April 2, 2020

Wednesday April 1, 2020

Happy April Fools Day everyone! Be kind in the pranks you pull on your family members. Remember, you're going to be stuck together for a while and undoubtedly they'll find a way to pay you back with more mischief!

Today we've got some review on plotting points on the coordinate plane.

  • First there is an activity called The (Awesome) Coordinate Plane Activity on Desmos Click Here!

  • Then there is a worksheet to plot points to create a Wabbitt! Feel free to color it in when you're all done!

I'm hoping on Thursday or Friday morning to have a Zoom gathering with those of you that are interested. I plan to use Math Buddy's Questions of the Day questions for this session. It'll be experimental to see if we can pull this off. Mrs. Cormier said she had a session on Tuesday that went well!

Stay tuned!!

Tuesday March 31, 2020

Hello!

Today's topic is reviewing solving one step equations. On the Distance Learning page for this week there is a video to watch first. Worksheet 'E-75 What did the butcher say to the tough piece of meat?' should be in your packet. The video and clues should give you some good strategies to solve these.

I also have posted the worksheet and video in Google Classroom!

Monday March 30, 2020

It's a new week everybody! A snowy morning too! They have put out a 2.5 hour delay for the food drops so the breakfast may arrive more for brunch! ;-)

Today's topic is adding Integers. There is a Brain Pop video to start off with. Please take the review for the quiz after the video and email me your results. Then there is a worksheet, E-66 Moving Words worksheet, for you to do as well. Check under the Distance Learning tab for this week's resources.

Note: People are needing the Brain Pop username and password - here they are!

  • Username: sams

  • Password: mlti

Remember, make a subtration problem into an addition problem by using Same Add Opposite. Look at the hints on the page for the assignment.

A congratulations to Jadein of 7B and Mark of 8C for top scorers in Khan Academy this week!!!

Friday March 27, 2020

Hello everbody!

Good to hear from some of you yesterday! I got some good math questions from you from worksheets in your packet. We've got some hard workers out there!

Today in Google Classroom you will find a quiz based on the first 4 worksheets in the math packet that was sent home and the Quizizz and Kahoot. Please try it even if you haven't done all 4 of these worksheets yet!

From my email yesterday you now know that I can't put grades into Power School for work completed. I still will review work sent to me in Google Classroom or email and do my best to answer questions that you have, I just can't put a formal grade in for Power School. Thank you to those who responded - I'd love to hear from the rest of you!

Next week we'll focus on the remaining 4 worksheets in the packet and I will put up new activities to try over the week. We're working on a new packet to be used up to vacation week.

Enjoy this sunny Friday everyone!

Mr. Boz

Thursday March 26, 2020

Hey everybody!! Looks like some sun today and back up into the 40s! If you're in an area where you can get outside be sure to get some fresh air and soak up some vitamin D from the sun. We're closing in on the end of the week. Please take a look at those worksheets and get some passed in through Google Classroom. I've been entering work passed in correctly into Power School so that those of you who pass in some work will come into school with a nice grade when we come back together.

Todays assignment is E-60 'Who saw the brontosaurus enter the restaurant?' based on adding Integers. Just remember good guys versus bad guys. It should go pretty smoothly!

I'll be posting a quiz for tomorrow through Google Classroom based on this weeks topic. Please be sure to look for it.

Shoot me an email - love to hear from you!

sbosworth@msad54.org

Mr. Boz

Wednesday March 25, 2020

We started out with a snowy morning - I'd say we got about 8 inches of snow last night! Anybody take advantage of the snow and do any snow sculpture, build snow forts, or have snowball fights? I dug my snowshoes out and took the dogs out for a hike, a 3 mile hike at that! I like to make videos so I took time to get some footage of my hike and here's what happened! Snow Time With Furry Friends

For today's assignment we'll be looking at more percents with E-37 What is the best way to serve Lion meat? Some of the problems will be easy BUT some of them are going to be a little tricky. Look on the Distance Learning page for some hints and pass it into Google Classroom by taking a Photo Booth shot of your work, worksheet AND actual work. Especially the actual work!

Did you try the Quizizz on COVID19? How did you do?

Shoot me an email and let me know how you're doing!

I heard from some of you yesterday and see that some people were in doing the Quizizz and Kahoots on the Distance Learning page here. I just added another Quizizz on COVID19 to test how well you know in regards to keeping yourself and others healthy during this time.

Please take pictures of your work (worksheet AND work, ESPECIALLY the work) and submit them in the appropriate assignement on Google Classroom. I am aiming for one assignment a day Monday through Thursday with a quiz using Google Forms on Friday. As work gets passed in I am putting grades into the Power School gradebook to mark credit when it's done.

I'll be looking for top point scorers in Khan Academy at the end of the week to see who our Dukes, Dutchesses, and then Queen or King will be for this week!

I'd love to hear from you even if it's just to say hey!

Monday March 23, 2020

Happy Monday everyone!

First of all congratulations to Mark in 8C for getting the Khan King award. He accumulated the most points in Khan Activity last week. Each week I'll be looking for the highest accumulated points from each group who will be Dukes or Dutchesses of their groups with the highest of the four becoming King or Queen Khan for the week!

I saw the busses go by making deliveries this morning. With it you should have received LOTS of materials from the Somerset team. I'm sure you're all VERY excited!! There is a math packet with worksheets reviewing things we've worked on over the year so far. After this packet we'll pick up where we left off in school.

For today I'd like you to tackle worksheet E-26. There is a video for review on the Distance Learning page here. On Google Classroom there is an assignment space to attempt to pass it in by you taking a picture of it.

On the Distance Learning page there are Kahoot and Quizizz challenges to do this week. They will close at the end of the week or shortly thereafter. I'll have different ones each week. I also put a link to Math Buddy Question of the Day. Try these with your family. Start at Grade 1 and work your way up. Maybe you can get them all - or see how close you can get! They give a solution to each problem after you submit your answer.

Learning like this is going to take some getting used to and we'll have bumps along the way but WE CAN DO IT!!

You can email me at sbosworth@msad54.org

Let's start this week off STRONG!

March 18, 2020

Hi all!

Hope everyone is doing okay. Is boredom setting in yet for you folks?

We have been busy putting together packets for you to work on while everybody is stuck at home. Please refer to the Distance Learning page here for help with your packet. If you don't yet have a packet you can go to Google Classroom to download the math worksheets in the packet. You can use regular paper to do your work.

Feel free to email me with questions as you work through the packet and update with your progress.

Email: sbosworth@msad54.org

I recommend working on some Khan Academy too. 20 - 30 minutes several days a week in addition to our packet would be super to maintain your math skills and more math learning!

Hopefully we'll see you on March 30th. Guess we'll need to stay tuned in to see if that will be the case!

We miss you all!
