GT Services:
MSAD 51's GT services are offered via a "pull-out" model, meaning that identified students meet with their designated GT teacher(s) outside of the regular education classroom. GT "seminars" occur on a once-per-week basis, and in the areas of literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies. Our goal is to challenge identified students with appropriately-leveled instruction, materials, and assignments. Though we use the same, or closely related learning targets to inform our instruction, we make every attempt to enrich and engage our students through instruction and assignments that are rigorous, relevant, and real-world.
Students identified in the areas art and music are offered differentiated materials and/or assignments by the appropriate teacher(s) during their Allied Arts classes. In all content areas, the GT staff are available to consult with regular education teachers should the need for additional resources and/or challenges arise for identified and non-identified, high-achieving students.
In addition to formal GT and consultation services, students can challenge themselves through participation in one (or more) of our many clubs, teams, or activities. For example, students in grades 5-8 students who excel in mathematics may choose to join a grade-specific math team. Students in grades 6-8 who enjoy, and excel at research, writing, and history, may choose to participate in National History Day.
