Assignments will be posted and turned in on google classroom. Frequently, assignments will also be graded on Google Classroom before being uploaded to PowerSchool. Students are encouraged to use the private and public comment functions to ask for clarification on assignments when not in class
I accept work up to the end of the quarter. Students and families should understand that I grade assignments in the order that I recieve them and that I will not stay late. If a student chooses to turn in an entire quarter's worth of work on the Friday before grades are due, I may get to it or I may run out of time. I always recommend that unless there are special circumstances that students do work at the time it is assigned. Even though I accept late work, the NHI will remain in the gradebook until the work has been graded.
I am following school guidelines. Phones should be in the organizer unless circumstances merit otherwise. I occasionally use peardeck drag and draw tools as well as play kahoot and quizziz. Phones will be available for use on a case by case basis when we have these types of activities.
We (Spanish II) are trying out a new grading policy as a team. Meets expectations will earn a 90, exceeds expectations a 95. There will be a form available to make corrections and improvements. Minor improvements will warrant a 5 percent increase to the grade. Major improvements can earn 10 or more % depending on quality of the improvement. Google form to submit revisions is here. We are doing this in an effort to foster a growth mindset and encourage timeliness over perfection. Any work that is not turned in, even with excused absences, will be entered into PowerSchool as an NHI. This is to encourage students to make up missed work in a timely manner.
Food and drink are allowed in class provided they do not cause distractions and students clean up any messes and respect allergy boundaries. A class may lose privledges if these expectations are not met.
Students are expected to maintain a professional relationship in the classroom. Public displays of affection are not allowed. This includes but is not limited to: sitting on other students, putting legs up on other students legs, ruffling other students hair, pinching cheeks and calling each other cute. This applies to students who are dating each other and who are just friends.
I have a light system that indicates when we are doing direct instruction versus independant work time. Students are asked to try to limit time outside of class, especially during direct instruction. I use a digital sign in and sign out sheet. If a student is not meeting expectations, we may have to discuss their habits regarding leaving the room.
