While the MSAD11 school board discourages the administration of medication during the school day when other options exist, it does recognize that in some instances in may be necessary for students to have medications administered to him or her while at school.
Quick Facts Daily Medication Administration Policy:
Parent/guardians must provide written order from the students health care provider for medication administration.
Parent/guardian must provide a written request for medication administration at school.
Written orders and written requests must be renewed when there are changes to the orders.
The students parent/guardian shall deliver medication to school in the original container and properly labeled.
No more than 20 days (one month) of medication shall be kept at school.
Quick Facts Self Carry and Self Administration of Inhalers and Epinephrine Auto-injector:
Parent/Guardian must provide written order from students health care provider.
Parent/Guardian must provide a written request to self carry and self administer medication.
The school shall evaluate the students technique to ensure proper use and effectiveness of medication.
Quick Facts Dispensation of Over The Counter Medication (OTC):
Written parental/guardian permission is required in order for students to receive (OTC) medication at school.
Written permission is granted yearly by parental acknowledgement and signature to Health History Form.
OTC medication may only be administered by the school nurse, unless written or verbal permission is obtained by the parent or guardian prior to administration.
Over The Counter Medication may include:
Ibuprofen
Acetaminophen
Hydrocortisone
Benadryl
Antacid
Antibiodic ointment
