On June 21, 2004, Okinawa Shogaku High School (Okisho) in Okinawa, Japan, formed sister school alliances with Sanmin Commercial High School (SMVHS) as well as Kaohsiung Girls' High School (KGHS) in Taiwan. Since then, teachers and students have visited both sides through Reciprocal Exchange Program (REP) every winter and summer.
The cooperative relationship between SMVHS and Okisho can be traced back to 2003, when students and teachers from both schools successfully collaborated on a project via video conferencing to explore the issues on the SARS pandemic at the World Youth Meeting 2003 in Nagoya, Japan. Due to the success of this collaboration, both schools started to deepen the relationship by establishing the formal sister school alliance.
For the past years, both Summer REP (outbound) and Winter REP (inbound) have achieved goals as below:
Enhancing friendly relations among teachers, students and parents between sister schools.
Improving students' interest and ability in foreign language learning.
Facilitating educational and cultural exchanges between sister schools.
