COMPASS Program

Creating

Opportunities for

Meaningful,

Personal,

Academic, &

Social Success

Guiding Students and Families Towards Personal Accomplishments Today and Tomorrow

What is COMPASS?

Students in the COMPASS program will receive instruction beyond the core academic areas (reading/writing, math, science, etc).  Students in COMPASS will also receive instruction across the 4 functional life skills domains:

-Community Living

-Domestic/Independent Living

-Vocational

-Social/Leisure

All students in the COMPASS program will receive individualized instruction in these areas as determined by their special education eligibility and individualized education plan.  No two student plans will look alike!

Where is COMPASS?

COMPASS is not a place, but a program.  What it “looks like” in each building or stage of school differs.  Likewise, COMPASS programming can and will differ for each individual student.  There are COMPASS classrooms at Lincoln Trail, Mahomet-Seymour Junior High and Mahomet-Seymour High School.   However, inclusion with general education peers will always remain a priority.

Skills

What is ATLAS?

ATLAS is a community-based, functional life skills program for students age 18-22 who have participated in COMPASS.  The program encourages instruction in “real-life environments.”

In addition to providing instruction across the four life skills domains, ATLAS emphasizes advancing student independence by teaching the skills to:

-express preferences,

-explore vocational and housing options,

-learn to utilize transportation options, and

-partner with civic and state organizations to gain post school services.

Where is ATLAS?

ATLAS is currently housed in the MAYC (Mahomet Area Youth Club) building located at 700 W. Main St. in Mahomet.  However, much of student instruction occurs across the Champaign County community where students are engaging in vocational training or other community based instruction.
