This unit is all about kindness, and the important part that empathy can play in creating a fair, sustainable, and peaceful future for our world.
We are going to read a book called 'Wonder' by RJ Palacio.
It’s about appearances and being judged.
It’s about the need to belong and the fear of difference.
It is about how we choose to see the world and recognise similarities, rather than differences.
It’s one boy’s story, yet it’s told from many points of view.
The world we live in is like this: Events are experienced not just from one point of view but from many different perspectives. Understanding and recognising this is a very important part of being an open-minded, kind global citizen.
To analyse and understand the protagonist, Auggie, and his perspective of the world.
To synthesise your learning about the statement of inquiry, use what you have learned about point of view of and character, and think about how changing people’s perspectives can help cultivate kindness.
