Making contact is the first step (be persistent, but move on if there is no response)
Update your visits in your designated table for your building administrator
Don’t forget to use the MRH Home Visit form to log a visit (this is how you get paid)
all students new to a loop
all students who are assigned to a new teacher in the second year of a loop
all students who are new to the district
any students who may need additional support
All data must be entered into the Home visit form by September 1st in order to be reimbursed for the visit.
Check your calendar to make sure you know when your visits are happening. If the home visit is in person we encourage you to have a second person. You can sign up to help advisory teachers. If the student has an IEP, the case manager or SSD teacher will be given preference to attend.
Intro yourself and role - short, friendly, and confident. See the sample letter available here
If you are meeting in person confirm with your building administrator that there are no important pieces of information that are needed from the family. If you are meeting virtually, make sure that is approved by your building administrator and meets the criteria outlined in their building planning document, here is a SAMPLE Slide of all the info you might need.
For virtual visits, it is not necessary to have 2 people.
Focus on the student (These are just suggestions):
Hobbies, interests, summer plans (What’s the last book you read? Show you watch? etc)
What are your academic goals for next year and personal goals
If you had to describe your strengths and weaknesses what would they be
What is something your last school did well that you would want to see next year?
Parent focus:
What do we “need to know” to best support your student at MRH?
What fears or concerns do you have about coming to our school?
What are you hoping for out of school and studio/museum/expeditions/apprenticship?
Informational Focus
Lockers/cubbies/homeroom/school supplies
When students should visit lockers MS/HS
PE details
Schedule change they need to fill out a form
Do not engage in political conversations as this upcoming year is a national election.
Ask for questions... and thank them for their time.
Ask them to complete the parent survey
