The concept behind the Teacher Home Visit Program is simple. Teachers and parents/guardians come together as partners, building trust and forming a relationship in which they can take the time to share dreams, expectations, experiences, and tools regarding the student’s academic success. Once a relationship is formed, the partners are empowered and are able to be accountable to each other to make the necessary changes to ensure that students experience academic and social success.
The program works much like its name implies. Teachers and administrators arrange and then visit the homes of MRH students. Usually in the evenings, they meet with parents or guardians, siblings, and pets on their turf. It's a chance for teachers to better understand the dynamics the child brings with him or her to the classroom.
Home visits are an essential action step outlined in our strategic plan. Home visits can significantly strengthen the connection between school and family. This two-way communication builds trust and lays the foundation for a strong partnership between parents and educators. Collaboration is essential for ensuring families feel welcome and involved in their child's education. Home visits also offer a window into a student's home life, providing valuable insights that can help teachers tailor their approach to individual needs. Home visits are tied to our "For Our Community" Goal 3: Create a shared commitment to equitable family engagement between the school community and MRH so that the education experience promotes a shared responsibility for student success.
When home visits successfully help families feel connected, the parents have an increased sense that teachers really care about their child(ren). Most children enjoy having their teacher visit their home. When teachers visit a home, students often feel more important and proud of their family. Home visits can also give teachers the insight they need to help all students succeed. The insights gained from these visits can substantially influence the life of a student.
Appreciate the home visits
I liked hearing advisory will be every day, and the plans for that time (going over grades, planners, assignments ect) I am hopeful this will help 7th graders learn to manage multiple classes, assignments which I feel they may not be prepared for.
I’m reference to question #1, it was nice to meet the new teacher. However, this was one 30 minute meeting. We hope to form a positive relationship with the teacher
Regarding the question below, that seems like high expectations of one 30 minute home visit. What it did accomplish is that it provided our daughter and us a chance to introduce ourselves to our new teacher and let our child begin to build a relationship in a very warm and individualized way.
We appreciate the opportunity to have home visits and expeditions!
The teacher is very nice and enthusiastic. I think she will bring bright, positive energy to MRHE
I really love the opportunity to sit down with the teacher before school starts to get to know them a bit and them to get to know my kid. It is a unique opportunity and helps feel involved or connected with my kids school and teacher.
I am so glad that the ECC does home visits!
_____ is currently in the stage of immensely missing her preschool, which she’s known mostly for 2.5 years. But we know the home visit has already helped her future relationship with the teacher as she told me tonight she loves her!
It was such a pleasure meeting the teacher! Our child thought she was so nice and he is excited that she will be his teacher. She was so kind and patient listening to our child and answering any and all questions we had. After this home visit, we are genuinely excited for our child to start MRH this upcoming year!
We are looking forward to this year.
It was a pleasure to meet _____ today. We look forward to learning and growing with her.
Supporting teachers is critical during this uncertain time in education nationwide. I hope the district makes it a priority to listen to teachers this year and truly find what they need to be supported and make sure that is happening.
We love these opportunities for our kids to meet their teachers before the first day!
I love the home visit program!
We appreciate everyone who takes the time to push for a great education and encourages my kids!
My daughter has all new teachers and I was not happy about it. After meeting 2 of them in our home, I feel so much better about sending her back to school. The teachers are AMAZING!!!
I've continually appreciated the opportunity to meet our child's teacher prior to the start of the school year (with the pandemic and last minute scheduling we haven't actually managed an in-home visit but eventually :)
I think the home visits help MRH stand out as a school.
________ seems like a great hire. Creative and hardworking with good insights despite inexperience.
It would be great if the below question allowed more than one answer. The home visit has the potential to help with several of the options provided.
I appreciate the flexibility in scheduling home visits. __________ worked with us to find an alternative time to meet and she really went the extra mile!
We feel so lucky to be in a district with such dedicated and hard working teachers and staff!
Thank you teachers for doing home visits. They are so important to help students feel comfortable.
So happy to be apart of the MRH Family!
The teacher home visits are meaningful and were certainly helpful for both our boys as they transition back to and into the ECC this year!
