Senior Girls Volleyball Fundraiser!

Cost: $3 - 3.50/lb (rates will be set soon)

Availability:  5 lb or 10 lb flats

Type:  Initially Duke Blueberries / Bluecrop (mid season)

 Delivery:  Twice a week (Wednesday/Thursday and Sunday evenings) at location near Burnaby Central 

 Duration of fundraiser:  Blueberry season may run July to mid August.  First delivery may be this weekend.

Caveats:  Due to the seasonal nature of blueberries, delivery may be cancelled or postponed due to the weather. 

Proceeds will go towards tournament fees and gear for the 2024/2025 season.

Please email edsit@telus.net if you wish to order some fresh local blueberries.

Central Athletics.... by the Numbers:

35 Teams, Over 430 Student Athletes Participating, Over 100 Student Volunteers assisting Athletics, & 50 Staff or Community Coaches!  6 Burnaby New West Champions,   2 Fraser North Champions & 6 Top 3 FN Finalists (including 6  Top 3 finishers at Track and Swim Zones), 11 Teams qualified for Provincials!

Highlights:

Some of our fall highlights included the Cross Country team qualifying 7 runners for zones (Eva, Christy, Ben, Yi Cheng, Mark, Juliana, Kanchana).  Ella Ricketts placed 1st in the district, 2nd at Zones and 18th at provincials.  Our Swim team had a great year including our Girls Freestyle Relay team (Sophia, Kyra, Cherry, Beatrice) who placed 4th at zones and Sophia who placed 3rd at zones and qualified for provincials.  Our Grade 8 Rugby team were BNW Champs.

Our volleyball teams also had a great year including the BNW and Fraser North win by the Gr 9 Girls Team.  They went on to finish 4th at the invitational provincials.  Our Snr Girls also won the Burnaby Banner and along with the Snr Boys, they finished 2nd at Zones.  Both teams qualified for provincials with the Boys placing in the top 10.  The Jnr Girls Volleyball Team finished 2nd in the league and the Jnr Boys finished 4th. The Grade 8 Girls won the consolation Playoffs. The Jnr Boys Soccer team finished 2nd in the league and the Snrs qualified for zones.

Now for our Winter Season Awards.  Here are some highlights. Our wrestling team had a very hard working, young team and helped Alexis qualify for provincials and Edin and Ben both placed 4th at Provincials.  Edin and Ben both went to Nationals and they placed 4th and 6th.  In Basketball, our Snr Girls topped off an unbelievable 5 years by repeating as BNW Champs and placing 9th at Provincials.  Our Snr Boys had some big wins including over Mountain and finished 3rd in the league and qualified for zones.  Our Jnr Girls finished 2nd in the league and the Jnr Boys won the David Thomsen Tourney.

Now for our Spring Season Awards.  Our Snr Girls soccer tam was able to win the Fraser North Banner and went on to finish 15th at Provincials where Saira won the Golden Boot with 9 Goals in the tourney.

The Junior Badminton Team finished 2nd in the league while the Snr Finished 5th.  with a 6-3 record while the Snrs placed 3rd in the BNW.  At the Zone Individual tournament, Megan and Lolie finished 1st in doubles, Simon and Kateryna finished 2nd. Our 8 Boys Volleyball qualified for league playoffs while the 9 boys finished 3rd in the league.  The Ultimate team had huge numbers and our Snr team made it to playoffs.  Our Netball team won the Jnr BNW Banner and finished 2nd at Provincials in the Senior Division.     The Golf team finished won the BNW banner, placed 3rd at zones and qualified for provincials.

Our Snr Rugby team showed great teamwork and finished 4th at zones but lost a heart breaker in the Burnaby Final.  We also ran our very first Girls 7s rugby team this year. The Ball Hockey Team went finished 2nd in their league.  The Track team qualified 27 athletes for zones including meet records by Aashni (2x), Esha and Dominic and 19 of those qualified for Provincials.  There were too many excellent zone results to list here but check out our Instagram page for more details.  Aashni (x2) and Alexis both placed in the top 8 at Provincials while Dominic took home a silver medal in Hammer & 5th in Discus.  Dominic was also recognized as a top performer at the BNW meet and his Zone Record Breaking throw allowed him to meet national U20 Standards.

CENTRAL SPORTS COUNCIL (formerly the Scorekeeper Club) - students who are interested in joining the Sports Council will learn how to  be a minor official for our Athletic Program.  You can earn service hours to put towards the School Service Award, gain valuable experience for resumes/applications, and pick up some free Central Athletic Gear!  We will hold training meetings before the upcoming volleyball and basketball season (check back here or on our Instagram page).   If you are interested, click here to SIGN UP (coming soon) .

Central Athletics.... by the Numbers:

33 Teams, Over 400 Student Athletes Participating, Over 100 Student Volunteers assisting Athletics, & 50 Staff or Community Coaches!  7 Burnaby New West Champions (including 16 x 1st Place finisher in Track & 2 in Swimming),   2 Fraser North Champions & 8 Top 3 FN Finalists (including 8 x 1st Place finishers in Track, 2 Bronze in Badminton, 5 Finalists in Swimming and 1 in Wresting), 11 Teams Qualified for Provincials!

It is hard to include them all, but other team highlights included the Snr Girls Cross Country Banner win and qualification for Provincials.  All Basketball teams qualified for league playoffs.  The clean sweep by the Girls Basketball Program at Gr 8, Jnr and Snr levels.  Snr Girls Basketball winning the Fraser North Championship over Riverside then placing 3rd at Provincials.  Golf qualifying for provincials for the 1st time in 20 years.  Ball hockey going undefeated.  Netball almost running the table with league then zone champion & 2nd at Provincials.  Every fall Volleyball team qualified for zones. Grade 9 Girls winning the BNW & Fraser North Banner.   Ultimate doubled in size.  Senior Girls Soccer winning BNW banner and then placed 2nd at zones and 5th at Provincials.  Individual highlights included Ella R & Jaya K selected to Canada U18 Netball, Colton L selected to Canada U18 Rugby, Jade H & Ankita C selected as 1st Team All Stars at Basketball Provincials, Vobia K selected to BC U17 Basketball, and 8 x 1st place finishes at Track & Field Zones, Hayden Y winning a 2nd/3rd/8th at Provincial Swim Meet.  Big Thanks to all of our coaches for providing excellent opportunities for our Student Athletes!  Check out a full update and photos under the UPDATE tab!
