My name is Sylvia Fagin and I teach ML at Union Elementary School and Montpelier High School. I love my job! I feel super lucky to get to work with young people and families from all over the world.
I started teaching in Montpelier in 2004. Before that I spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, led groups of teenagers on bilingual community service trips in Québec, and worked as a community health educator in Pennsylvania. I received a Masters of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) from the School for International Training (SIT) in Brattleboro, Vermont. Sometimes I blog about teaching. I like to hang out on Twitter, too. I live in Montpelier.

Hi! My name is Laura Rooney and I am in my first year teaching Multilingual Learners at Union Elementary School! I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Applied Linguistics from Trinity Western University in April 2016. In May of 2018, I graduated with my Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Saint Michael’s College. For the past seven years, I have worked with Multilingual Learners of all ages in various parts of Vermont, New York, and Western Canada. What gets me excited about my job is building relationships with students and their families and working closely with classroom teachers to best support the individual needs of every Multilingual Learner. I am so excited to be a part of Union Elementary School, and to learn and grow as a teacher! Outside of school, I love crafting, learning languages, archery, being in nature, and reading a good book!
