Who I am

Eli Rosenberg is in his 15th year at Main Street Middle School and his 20th year teaching Science and Social Studies. He has also taught in Swanton, Hardwick, and the International School of Tbilisi.

Eli believes in a hands-on, minds-on learning environment in which students develop their collaborative skills, fluency with technology, and creativity as they dig deep into the challenges of creating meaningful and sustainable lives in the 21st century. He strives to create a team culture that is goal- and growth-oriented, democratic and inclusive, and oriented towards our school, city, and global communities.

When Eli is not working, he enjoys singing, cooking, and decoupage. He is an avid snowboarder, kayaker, and boardgamer, and coaches a Lego Robotics team. Eli looks forward to teaching abroad again, and agrees with Steve Jobs that, "the journey is the reward."

My Role in the Community

Eli has many roles in the community. Some are public: he teaches Science and Global Studies at Main Street Middle School, coaches a Lego Robotics team, and he is a member of Beth Jacob Synagogue. Other roles are private: he has a wife and two sons, and groups of friends who meet regularly to play Disc Golf and Dungeons and Dragons. His extended family connections, friends, students, students' families, and neighbors all know him as a humorous, creative, passionate, and friendly person.

What I stand for

The Eli Code

Clear communication: speak from silence. I value patience and understanding, and strive to avoid conflict and miscommunication. Peaceful and calm discussions get more done than yelling at each other. Bad feelings stop progress.

Humor. I value humor and those who laugh. Laughter is good for the body and the mind, and it helps us all become more comfortable. It is a great tool to make friends and bridge cultural divides, and it helps me to deal with adversity.

Creativity and imagination. Make things that are beautiful, share things that are fun, imagine new and interesting ideas, and seek the sense of wonder and awe that exists all around us. By exercising creativity, we can add to and improve the world for others.

Seek new excitement and experiences. I love to travel and see the world in new ways, to feel wonder, awe and inspiration. These experiences recharge my batteries, fire me up, and make me happy.

Give a darn. I care about other people and want to help them. I show this by listening to people, seeking to make contact and check in, paying attention and being aware when they are upset.

Whistle while you work. A job well done is very satisfying. I want the things I do to be high-quality, and I believe that hard work makes a big difference.

I stand for slaying dragons.
