Q: What are the steps for applying to enter the Middletown High School Career & Technical Education program?
Step 2: Be on the lookout for your MHS Acceptance letter in both email and traditional mail.
Step 3: Once accepted, let your local school district know that you plan on attending Middletown High CTE. Complete any paperwork they require to dis-enroll. If you're already a Middletown student, we've got you covered.
Step 4: The MHS CTE Coordinator will reach out to schedule a tour of the building and a meeting with MHS Guidance to set your schedule.
Step 5: Get ready to be part of the Islander nation!
Q: What is the cost of signing up for these programs?
A: There is NO COST! Middletown Public School students participate for free. For out of district students, the sending school district pays for 100% of the attendance cost.
Q: If I am planning on attending from another school district is transportation provided?
A: Yes, if you live in one of the following towns: Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Little Compton, or Tiverton (District 5). If you live outside of these areas your student(s) may still attend, but they will be required to provide their own transportation. We do provide on-site, student parking.
Q: I would like to see the school before deciding to attend. Do you offer tours of your facilities?
A: Yup. Tours can be scheduled by calling the main office (401-846-7250) or by emailing the guidance clerk, Ms. Heather Richardson (hrichardson@mpsri.net). Tours are most often scheduled directly after school at 2:00pm and last approximately 45 minutes. For safety purposes we do not offer school tours during the school day.
Q: What types of athletics, extracurricular, and co-curricular opportunities exist at Middletown High School?

Q: What is the typical class size for grades 9 - 12? What is the student-to-faculty ratio?
A: The overall student-to-faculty ratio is 9:1. The classroom student to faculty ratio is 12:1. The typical class size, depending on program of study and student interest, ranges from 15 - 25 students per class.
Q: Once I choose a pathway must I remain in that pathway for all 4 years at MHS?
A: While this is encouraged, it's not required. However, to receive a pathway endorsement you must complete all 4 course levels of your identified pathway. Keep in mind that if a student elects to shift to another pathway, the pathway completion requirement remains the same (i.e. complete all 4 levels of coursework) if said student is looking to achieve a specific pathway endorsement. If you are an out of district student and you choose to dis-enroll from the CTE program completely, you will be required to return to your sending district.
Q: I'm a public school student in another district. Do I have to notify the community where I live that I would like my student to attend Middletown High?
A: Yes. If you decide to submit a formal application to the MHS Career and Technical program your sending district needs to know so that they can cover the cost. If you're just exploring the option of attending you will not need to notify your district. Please note that your sending district cannot prevent you from attending MHS Career & Tech if you make that choice.
