Relation to NHD Theme

This year’s National History Day theme is “Debate and Diplomacy; Successes, Failures, and Consequences”. Martin Luther King, Jr. is the perfect example of this theme. First of all, King played a huge role in one of the biggest debates of U.S. history; segregation. He led many marches, and gave many speeches to end this debate. An example of diplomacy is the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that ended discrimination. King was successful in his fight against black hate, but had the consequence of haters who didn’t agree with him.
