MTSS is the evidence-based framework used in Mashpee that provides instruction to students through data-based problem-solving. Varying levels of support (multiple tiers), are designed to help students make progress based on their need. Interventions for students receiving Special Education services as well as students who require extra instruction to make progress are developed based upon the results of school-wide screenings. In the case of a student identified with a disability his or her strengths and weaknesses as a learner are also considered when designing instruction. Some materials are adapted or differentiated ideas from the general curriculum materials while others are designed to support learners with specific learning styles and needs.

After teachers individually administer a screening tool they adjust instruction and develop interventions for students who may need additional practice to become proficient with a particular skill. In Pre-K students are administered the PELI (Preschool Early Literacy Indicators) assessment and The Acadience RAN (Rapid Automatized Naming) assessment. Students in grades K-2 are administered STAR Literacy and Math assessments.

By regularly reviewing this information, our staff proactively identifies trends, reinforces positive expectations, and delivers behavioral support when a student needs extra guidance.
