The goal of the below activities is to allow conversations to start with partnerships who now have an understanding of the why and how of co-teaching. The partnership will create the WHAT for the upcoming year.
We’ve provided some very specific optional guidance in italics for how you might facilitate these activities. You can take your own direction with these activities.
- Gallup Strengths Activity (approximate time= 10-15 minutes)
Materials Needed: Electronic PDF (with edit features)
a. Timed-Pair-Share- How do my strengths work together?
- Find your Gallup strength pairings
- Use the edit features of PDF
- Change the color of the font for each
- Pick 5 you believe your co-teaching partner(s) should know (bold that font)
- They will see this in planning sessions.
- They will see this when you work with students.
- For 2 minutes, share these with your partner. If time remains, ask questions
2. Getting Started Conversations (approximate time= minimum of 1 hour)
Materials Needed: Getting Started Conversations Table
- How can our strengths be used in our partnership throughout the year?
- Think about each question
- Share your answer- listen to your partner’s
- Record answers on the document (electronically or in writing)
- Reflect on this document throughout the year (e.g. PLC meetings, department meeting times, shared planning time, etc.)
3. Co-Teaching Model- St. Cloud (approximate time= 30 minutes)
Materials Needed: Copy of Understanding Co-Teaching PPT- (Model Slides to post around room), 2 colors of Post-It notes
- Around the Room Feedback
- Post St. Cloud models around the room with descriptions
- Walk around to each station individually
- Stop at each station
- Read the descriptions
- Think about your individual strengths
- Write how this model would utilize your strengths on the Post-It note
- Meet up with co-teaching partner when done with all stations
- Walk around together discussing your responses
- Think and decide upon a model you can try within the first few weeks after this training
