Course Policies and Procedures:
Late work
One day is allowed to turn in late homework without penalty. 10% reduction on the assignment for any work accepted after the one day grace period. Homework will not be accepted after three days from when the assignment was due. A zero should be entered into the gradebook for any assignment not turned in.
Students with late work could be assigned to Homework Lab from 3:00 to 4:00 to finish that work.
If a child has an excused absence during that time, the child should be afforded the extra time that they were out of the building to complete the late work.
Extra Credit
No extra credit will be given. We will not offer students the opportunity to raise their grade through additional work. The best way to raise a low grade is to take advantage of redo opportunities on tests and quizzes.
Test retakes:
6th grade: Students have the ability to retake a test or quiz. Retakes must occur within 5 days of a test or quiz being returned to the student.
In order to be eligible for the retake, the student must complete a series of review procedures which will be attached to a parent signature form. Retaking a test is the responsibility of the student and they must see the teacher for specific directions.
If a child has an excused absence during that time, the child should be afforded the extra time that they were out of the building to complete the retake.
Classroom Rules:
B.A.R.K-Every student is expected to be Be Safe, Act Responsibly, Respect Themselves and Others, and show Kindness Towards All (BARK) while in the classroom. If those expectations are not met, I will notify parents and ask the student to stay after for 30 minutes.
Absences: For every day a student is absent, they will have equal days to make up the work. Students should check the Sigma Homework page, Google classroom and with me to see what they missed.
Computers: Students should plan on bringing their computer to class every day. Teachers will let them know if and when they will use it in class that day. Google Classroom will be one method where assignments are communicated and assigned to students.
Cell phones and devices: Students will use their district-assigned laptop and have access to Google Classroom. All personal electronic devices including cell phones, smartwatches, and airpods must be powered off and stored away. If a student uses a personal electronic device during school hours, the device will be confiscated and turned into the office.
PLAGIARISM & ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Beadle Middle School strives to maintain a quality and fair learning environment. The following instances of academic dishonesty compromise this standard: a) Obtaining or accepting a copy of a test or test key, including electronic tests or test keys. b) Copying, attempting to copy, or giving answers to another student during an examination. c) Failing to use only teacher approved materials during an examination. d) Failing to credit the product of someone else’s creativity. e) Copying or permitting another student to copy or obtain credit for one’s work, (including, but not limited to, homework, papers, project, laboratory report, take-home exam, or in class work) other than for a teacher approved collaborative effort. f) Any other action intended to obtain credit for work not one’s own.
If a student doesn’t complete their own work, parents will be notified and the student will receive a consequence.
USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) IN ACADEMIC WORK
The responsible and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools is an important part of maintaining a fair and high-quality learning environment. Students must complete all assignments and assessments independently unless otherwise directed by a teacher. Using AI to cheat, plagiarize, generate answers without permission, or gain an unfair advantage is considered academic dishonesty.
Students should never use AI to create essays, projects, solve problems, or complete assignments or quizzes/exams unless specifically permitted by the teacher. AI tools are intended to supplement learning, not replace original thinking. Always consult your teacher about expectations for AI use before beginning an assignment.
Students are expected to:
Complete and submit their own work.
Properly credit any sources, including AI tools, if their use is allowed.
Follow copyright laws and respect intellectual property rights when creating or sharing digital content.
If a student doesn’t complete their own work, parents will be notified and the student will receive a consequence.
