Communication with families is important. We ask that parents use our school email addresses as the primary way to communicate with the 4th-grade teachers.
A digital newsletter will be sent out by your child’s teacher weekly to update you on what is happening in 4th grade in our classrooms.
Seesaw is another form of communication we will use in 4th grade, so you can see what your student is doing in class each week.
Please always call or email the office (402-715-6200) prior to 8:30 a.m. about your child’s absence, and we will be informed. If you know they will be gone for an extended period of time, please give an advanced notice.
Many of the topics we cover in 4th grade have real-world connections. If you have a career or hobby that relates to something we are learning, we would love to have you speak to your student's class or even all of 4th grade. If this interests you, please fill out the PARENT SURVEY. This will be updated and sent out for each unit ( email, Seesaw, newsletter).
A limited number of parents from each class will be able to attend our field trips. Information on field trips and chaperoning will be sent out closer to the field trips. Chaperoning is on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you for understanding.
There are times throughout the year that we will need a few extra hands. If this interests you, please watch out for further communication from your student's teacher or reach out to them about volunteering.
We believe that take-home assignments should be minimal in 4th grade.
We almost always give enough time in class to complete the assignments that are given. If the class/your child is on task, your child will have little to do at home.
Students will have spelling, reading, and math homework throughout the week.
Completing homework on time is an opportunity for students to learn good study habits. Please stress to your child that returning their completed homework is their responsibility and not yours! Homework will be sent home in a Take Home Folder.
Important papers from the school or your child's teacher will be sent home in a MILLARD folder. This is their take-home folder. Homework will also be sent home in this folder. Please look through this folder with your student and keep it tidy. Please send items that need to be returned to your child's teacher or the school in this folder. Homework should be completed and returned to school in this folder as well. Take-home folders will be sent home every day.
Per Mrs. Rozeboom's email in July.
We are writing to inform you of an update to our district's mobile device policy, in alignment with recent changes in Nebraska state law (LB140), which requires all school boards to have a policy restricting student cell phone use. While our district has had a policy in place, this update serves to further clarify expectations for our students.
Starting this fall, students in elementary schools may not use mobile devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, during the school day—from the time they arrive until the end of the day. If devices are sent to school, they will be kept off and stored in backpacks or other designated areas during school hours.
This update was made following thoughtful input from parents, staff, and students and is designed to support student focus and comply with state law. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your child.
If you need to reach your child during the school day, please contact the school office directly. Thank you for your continued support!
Students may begin entering the building at 8:15 through the FRONT DOORS. School begins at 8:30 a.m. If your child is ill or will not be in school for another reason, please notify the office prior to 8:30 a.m. at 402-715-6200.
Students will be dismissed through the 4th-grade doors(doors at the end of our hallway). Dismissal times are listed below. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, students will be dismissed at 3:30. On Wednesdays, students will be dismissed at 2:30. Please see the map for directions on traffic flow.
If your student rides the bus, they will wait inside the building under the supervision of a staff member and then walk to the bus when it arrives. If your student rides a daycare van, your student will exit from the 4th-grade doors and walk to the van pickup area. They will wait there under the supervision of a staff member until their van arrives. If your student attends SPARK, they will walk through the school to SPARK and check in.
You will be receiving a colored card with your last name and your youngest/only child’s teacher. These cards are for dismissal procedures at the end of the day. If you are picking up your child in the car line, please put this tag in your passenger windshield so that we can see it and call your child’s name. This saves us time and helps us keep traffic flowing. Please let us know if you need additional cards for other family members if they pick up your child.
4th graders eat lunch in the cafeteria from 12:20-12:50 every day. Visitors must check in with the office prior to eating lunch with students.
In 4th grade, students are allowed to get double lunch. This means 2 helpings of the main dish being served for lunch. Your student's lunch account will be charged for this second meal even if you receive free/reduced lunch. If your child would be interested in getting double meals on occasion and you are okay with that please email your child's teacher letting them know your child can get double lunches when they want to. You only need to email your child's teacher once to give permission. Let your student's teacher know if you have questions.
We ask that students bring a healthy snack in their backpacks along with their water bottles each day. If you would like, your child can bring a personal snack in his/her backpack daily. Please try to keep snacks healthy. Some examples include: graham crackers, fruit, granola bars, pretzels, dry cereal, fruit snacks, popcorn, etc.
We all have those forgetful days! If you are feeling generous and would like to donate to our emergency snack drawer, we would GREATLY appreciate it. Please make sure they are individually wrapped and store-bought. Some favorites are: Goldfish crackers, Skinny Pop, Cheez-Its, Pirates Booty, pretzels, Popcorners, granola bars, etc.
When the drawer runs low, we will seek out refills. Thank you in advance!
We highly encourage students to bring water bottles daily to stay hydrated. If students bring a water bottle, please send one with a lid and fill it with WATER ONLY. We also ask that students take water bottles at least over the weekend to be washed. Please do not send disposable water bottles as these tend to spill easily.
There will be at least two days each week that your child has P.E. class. On these days, students need to wear their tennis shoes to school to participate in class. On Library days, students will need to bring their books to renew or return. We suggest packing these in your student's backpack the night before so they are ready.
On Wednesdays, we alternate between the four specials classes (Music, P.E., Spanish, and Library) depending on whether it is a red, orange, yellow, or blue week. Click here to find more detailed information on what days/weeks your child has each special class.
Students are more than welcome to bring INDIVIDUAL treats for everyone in the class on their birthday. If your child has a summer birthday when we are not in school, they may bring the treats on their ½ birthday. An alternative to edible treats would be to send a small item for each student (pencils, stickers, small toys, etc.). Birthday treats are completely optional. Please send enough birthday treats for 25 students.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding birthdays or dietary restrictions of students in the classroom.
If your child has birthday party invitations for the whole class, they may pass those out at school. In the instance that students are only inviting a few students from their class or other classes, we ask that you contact their families. Please fill out the student directory to make sure parents have your contact information.
Thanks for your cooperation in providing the necessary supplies this fall. As the year progresses and your child is in need to replenish his/her supplies, a note will be sent home informing you which supplies are needed.
