Welcome to Cather Elementary School! We are excited to have you join our school community and extend a warm welcome to all of our new students and families.  

Please Note: Cather is currently under construction as we build our new secure entrance.

• The school office has been temporarily relocated to the back of the building. Please follow the posted signs when visiting the school.

• Student drop-off will take place at the playground entrance each morning.

• Students will enter the building under staff supervision beginning at 8:20 a.m.

• Students eating breakfast may enter the building beginning at 8:15 a.m. through the designated entrance.

• Additional information will be shared in the newsletter and at Back to School Night.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve the safety and security of our school.

Back-to-School Night will be held on Monday, August 10, from 4:30–6:00 p.m. This evening is a wonderful opportunity to meet teachers and classmates. You may bring your supplies that evening.  School supply lists are posted on our website and available in stores throughout the summer. If you need assistance with school supplies, please call the office at 402-715-1315. Miss Maeve Kelly, counselor, and Mrs. Kreager, principal, are happy to help with any supply questions.

The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 12. Doors will open at 8:20 a.m. We will begin the day with a kickoff celebration outside at 8:15a.m., which will include time for pictures. Teachers and students will enter the building at 8:20 a.m. and go directly to class. Students may pick up breakfast at that time if they wish. Parents will not walk students to classrooms on the first day, as Back-to-School Night is the opportunity for families to become familiar with the classroom and building. Remember - Wednesday dismissal is at 2:30 p.m.

If you have questions regarding medications or other health information, please contact the office. Students may not carry medication with them; a parent or guardian must bring medications directly to the nurse’s office. Students may carry chapstick and bring sunscreen if needed. Sunscreen must be applied by the student only. Cough drops must also be dropped off in the nurse’s office by an adult.

Mrs. Grieve, RN, will be at Cather on Tuesdays. Mrs. Chambers, our health/office para, will be at Cather on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Breakfast and lunch are available for purchase each day, and students are also welcome to bring a cold lunch from home. Please add money to your child’s lunch account through My School Bucks or send cash/check to school in an envelope labeled with your child’s name and teacher’s name.

We encourage all families to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application when it becomes available on the district website. Applications are completely confidential. Menus and additional food service information can be found here:

Important Reminders:

• Please check our website frequently and Cather Calendar at cather.mpsomaha.org.

• Please send a labeled, filled water bottle with your child each day. Water bottle filling stations are available throughout the building.

• No cell phones, smart watches/glasses.  Student cell phones and smart watches must remain turned off during the school day from 8:20 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Devices should be stored in backpacks or classroom pockets and may not be turned on again until students leave the building at dismissal. Students may wear an analog watch. Office phones are available if students need to contact parents during the day.

• Birthday treats are welcome if they are store-purchased and include an ingredient list. Homemade treats are not permitted. Please make arrangements with your child’s teacher at least one week in advance so treats can be planned for the end of the day. Please check for any classroom food allergies or restrictions.

• Families may also send birthday pencils, stickers, or small treat bags instead of food items.

• Please do not send flowers or balloons to school for students.

• Birthday invitations may only be distributed at school if every student in the grade level is invited.

• Teacher assignments are in ParentVue (where you registered your child)
