Finding and Borrowing Books
Take a look in the Sanford Media Center Catalog to see what books we own. Feel free to ask the Media Specialist for help or reccommendations.
Students may have up to 3 books checked out at one time. You may keep a book for up to 2 weeks, but please return it earlier if possible so that others may use it. Books checked out to you are your responsibility and will stay on your record until they are returned, paid for, or another resoution is worked out with the Media Specialist. Fines are not charged on overdue books, however, students may not check out additional books until all overdue materials are taken care of.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I find a book in the library?
Take a look in the Media Center Catalog. You can also ask Mr. Woolever for help in finding books that are interesting to you.
A book I am looking for is checked out. Can I put a hold on it so that I can check it out when it is returned?
Yes! The media specialist can help you put a hold on it. When the book is returned, you will be notified through the advisory announcements. You will have 1 week to pick it up from the Media Center before it is put back on the shelf for others to check out.
How many books can I check out?
You may have 3 books checked out at one time.
How long can I keep the books for?
You may keep the book for up to 2 weeks. If you are done with it earlier, please return it so that we can share it with others.
Where do I put the books when I'm done with them?
There are 2 return bins where you can drop off your books. One is right inside the Media Center door, and the other is on 1st floor outside of the main office.
Can I give my book to my friend to read?
No, please don't give your library books to your friends. This may seem odd because the Media Center is about sharing, but a book that is checked out to you is your responsibility. If your friend looses or damages your book, you will be responsible for paying or replacing it.
I still have books checked out from another school or another year. Does that count toward my 3 books?
Yes. Your record follows you from year to year and school to school. Please see the Media Specialist if you have any questions about your borrowing record.
I found a book from another Minneapolis School. Can I return it to the Sanford Library?
Yes!! Just put the book into the book return, and we will send it to the proper school. There may be a delay in getting it cleared from your record while it is shipped.
I have a book from a Hennepin County Public Library. Can I return it to the Sanford Media Center?
No, please return it to the public library. Hennepin County charges daily fees for overdue books. If a Hennepin County Library book ends up in the Sanford book return, we will try to return the book at our convenience. This is done as a favor to you, but you are responsible for any late fees, lost book charges, etc.
I lost a book from Sanford (or another Minneapolis School). How do I take care of it?
First, take a good look in your locker, backpack, classrooms, bedroom, and any other place you may have left it. If it is indeed lost, there are a few options. The preferred way is to pay for the book - funds are limited and this allows us to keep books available for all to share. If you are unable to pay, you may bring in an exact copy of the lost book. Other options may be available on a case-by-case basis.
