Mother of three, a jack of many trades, and I know a lot of random stuff. Hi, I'm Bobbi Middleton. I am the Middle School 6-8 Science Teacher at Madison Middle School in Madison, Nebraska. My goal every day is to empower youth to be producers not just consumers in STEAM areas. I am a firm believer in integrating STEAM into what we as educators already do.
Computer literacy used to be a bank of computers in a room as a solitary, stand-alone, special occasion use. Now the vast majority of our students and classrooms have one-to-one access at nearly all times of day. The question is no longer how to use a computer but now how to wield the power of the device in their hand to change the world. I work very hard to give the underrepresented populations access to different STEAM concepts. Did you know girls by the time they have reached 8th grade have already decided what they CANNOT do? We have to act early to impact the future.
Even though my degrees focus on mathematics and computer sciences my heart lies in finding how things work together in the world. STEAM fits that piece so perfectly. Throughout my career, I have been given so many opportunities to grow and learn new things. I am currently working on my Capstone Project for Master of Computer Science Education and have participated in Primarily Math with UNL, Nebraska Math Professional Development Series (NMPDS), Keep Improving Content Knowledge in Science (kicks), LINKS, TEAMS, TII (Teacher Innovator Institute - Smithsonian National Air and Space), 8 to great facilitator, and OpenSciEd Facilitator. Overall I am a self-proclaimed innovator, I like to take an idea and blow it up.
Here is a link to my rough ideas! They are mostly half baked ideas but you can take them and really run with it or help me figure out how to make them come to fruition.
