This year’s FBMS Summer Reading program is designed to support all of our learners. Our goal is to foster a love of reading while honoring students' individual learning needs.
Please note: Summer reading is required for all FBMS students. We also encourage families to join us in reading and engaging in meaningful conversations together.
Incoming 6th Graders
A unified grade level read of Eleven by Tom Rogers
Students entering grade 6 received their Summer Reading BINGO sheet and a copy of the book Eleven in their 5th grade class in June. Throughout the Summer students are asked to complete as many BINGOs as they can. This includes at least one BINGO with reading the book Eleven. Students will submit their signed and completed BINGO sheets to their ELA teacher in September along with their borrowed copy of the book. The assignment will count as a Term 1 grade, and completed sheets will also serve as a raffle entry to win prizes throughout our Empowering Readers Day on Friday, September 25th. If lost, a copy of the BINGO sheet can be found HERE.

Over the summer, Furnace Brook Middle School will be providing an online opportunity for your child to increase literacy skills through engaging and interactive lessons! Students 6-8 have been utilizing i-Ready to enhance their learning through adaptive on-line lessons in ELA. There is a diagnostic feature that students have already completed, which calibrated a custom set of lessons for every student’s particular needs. All students will have summer access to i-Ready until August 3rd. i-Ready can be accessed through Canvas. We encourage your child to use iReady, as it will help to maintain literacy skills and prepare for the start of next school year.
