Homecoming at Red Mountain is unlike any other in the state, and it all starts with planning. Over 3,000 kids attend Red Mountain, two full assemblies in the same gym with only a break of about 20 minutes between the 1st and 2nd. First we all have to plan the vision of what we want the assembly to look like and how the theme can tie in. This year we moved mountains, literally! A massive Mountain was built out of paper, plastic, and old boxes. Then once the vision is done the entire school is brought together to build community and get hype for the dance and big game! This year we introduced a game in which both sides of the gym would compete in stomping, led by MC Abe. The beat quickly turned into “We Will Rock You” and two teachers performed the song which brought plenty of laughter and cheering. To close out the assembly a dance team named Botz, one of the performers being Red Mountain Alumni that could be recognized from nation Television, put on an amazing show doing a full performance! The planning of the full assembly took weeks to plan and get all the pieces to fall just right but in the end we pulled off an awesome assembly!
We value the involvement of the parents in the Red Mountain High School Community. Due to this, we participate in a monthly SIAC (School Improvement Advisory Committee) meeting which is a way for parents and students to come together and discuss the issues facing the community and school that together we work to improve.
Red Mountain is all about hype and community, so what better way to bring the whole school together and also get some hype building, then too decorate the entire spirit hall in Hoco themed decor! From the puzzle pieces that make Red Mountain homecoming what it is, through the then and now themed halls it’s hard to find a hall a student doesn't fit into. Our council spends weeks planning and making decorations before we cover the halls in festive and bright paper. It takes over 3 hours on a friday night just to hang up all the decor, it even takes time throughout the week to keep the halls looking clean and perfect!
We love to make sure everyone feels included and involved at Red Mountain. On September 7, we reached out to a less included club known as best buddies which involves special needs students at our school. We were able to get to know each individual better through an interactive pizza and dance party.
