Lesson for DECEMBER
- Essential Question: What is Fiction? What is Nonfiction? short video or power point (depending upon internet accessibility)
- Objective: Students will be able to tell the difference between Fiction and Nonfiction materials.
- Activity:
- T will show students two books about Polar Bears. Both are actually Fictional but one has photographs.
- T will ask students how we can tell they are either Fiction on Nonfiction.
- T will ask students how we know this story is Fictional.
- Assessment/Evaluation: Fiction/Nonfiction book sorting activity shared via the LIBRARY Google Classroom or GoGuardian. Students will sort the books by dropping and dragging the book titles into the correct columns for either Fiction or Nonfiction.

Objectives: Students will be able to identify coding.
Activity: Students will watch the following videos: What is coding? Why do we Code? How do we code?
Students will choose two or more of the Coding activities from the buttons or the Choice board below.
Lesson for October
Topic: Return to School/Introduce Engineering/Design Process
Objectives: The student will understand the job of an engineer and the step of the Design Process.
Method/Procedure:
1. Teacher will introduce engineering to students and explain that we will be engineers in library/STEAM this year. (watch video above and read slides above)
2. Teacher will read Rosie Revere, Engineer and ask questions to check for understanding.
3. Students will learn steps of Design Process through kinesthetic learning: Ask, Think, Plan, Create, Make it Better.
Assessment/Evaluation: participation in read aloud/Design Process learning

Teacher will show students several library books that have been damaged.
Assessment/Evaluation: Create a poster for the Library; use one of the rules to make a sign for others to remember how to best take care of books. You can email me (heather.rowland@millville.org) a photo or save it for next week to share.
Activity: What is a Bad Seed and a Good Egg?
Listen to the story: The Bad Seed and then listen to The Good Egg.
Assessment/Evaluation: Choose your favorite character from either story.
Draw your own illustration of the character.
Keep it in a safe place to share with the group during our next live Meet.
