Math Egg Hunt - Addition and Subtraction within 20
Welcome to our Math Egg Hunt!
In this activity, students will learn strategies for finding sums and differences within 20 through an exciting egg hunt. They will practice addition and subtraction using counters, cubes, and number lines.
Objective: Students will know strategies for finding sums and differences within 20 and be able to use addition and subtraction strategies.
Directions: Students will be going on a math egg hunt to practice addition and subtraction. Hide plastic eggs outside in the courtyard. Inside each egg, place a math fact written on a piece of paper. (Example: 5 + 3, 10 - 2) Instruct students to find 5 eggs. After all the eggs have been found, students will use addition and subtraction strategies to solve the math facts.
Guidelines: Students will use counters to represent the numbers in the addition and subtraction problems. Students will use cubes to build the numbers in the addition and subtraction number sentences. Students will use the number line to hop forwards and backwards to find sums and differences.
