Students spent the month of September on an apple thematic unit. We read stories and watched videos to learn apple facts. We made a Can/Have/Are anchor chart with our apple facts. We learned about the parts of an apple and the apple life cycle. We explored apples using our 5 senses. We tasted 3 different apples: Granny Smith (green), Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious then graphed our favorite. We tasted different things made from apples: apple cider vs. apple juice, dried apples, Apple Jacks, as well as the most popular apple "Gala". We used the scientific method to answer the question "Will an apple sink or float?" and tested each of our apples we brought in. We made pictures of ourselves balancing a number of apples we chose on our heads and wrote about it. Lastly, we finished with writing our first paragraph "What we know about Apples". We are apple experts!
